At Midnight On The 1st, Lt. Governor Ramsey Is Fixin’ To Make It Rain
By Kleinheider Posted on May 8, 2009 at 5:33 pmFresh from the inbox:
Sitting legislators are not allowed to raise funds until the end of the legislative session — or June 1st — whichever comes first. Looks like Ramsey’s not planning on getting out early this year.

Kinda looks like Ronnie Ramsey is playin’ cutesy with that silly ol’ ethics law that he wanted the Legislature to repeal.
You know, the law that says it’s just plain illegal for a candidate for governor who is in the Legislature to even “solicit” contributions until end of session or June 1, whichever comes first.
Ronnie’s wink-wink nudge-nudge “save-the-date/stay-tuned” card says, “Hey - I’m only PRE-soliciting.”
Mebbe… but ACK’s “fixin’ to make it rain” headline sure reminds me of that ol’ political sayin’:
“If it walks like a Soliciting Duck, and it swims like a Soliciting Duck, and it quacks like a Soliciting Duck, then…”
Seriously? Ray Blanton had better ethics than this guy.
This is the same guy that sent out invitations to a fundraiser during session a few years ago. The same guy that uses RAAMPAC as a conduit to get around campaign contributions.
Ron Ramsey never met a campaign finance law he couldn’t flaunt.
Just don’t care anymore. I’ve joined Heatseeker at the Ennui Cafe. He’s having what looks suspiciously like a wine spritzer.
Ramsey will finish fourth in fundraising,he only has 30 thirty days to catch up with what everyone else has been doing for 5 months. All the air will be let out of his ballon and back to the Senate for him.
I don’t see how Ramsey and Gibbons stay in this thing. It comes down to Haslam and Wamp. There will be a lot of pressure on Ramsey to stay where he is and focus on the legislature.
What a shake-down opportunity for Ramsey!
Lobbyists who fail to precipitate flows of The Big Bucks to Ramsey’s campaign will be remembered and punished when he becomes Governor — or more likely, will be remembered and punished when he loses and continues in his powerful Lt. Governor seat.
After all, when Ramsey spoke with a local reporter back in January, did he talk about ideas or policies as the important factors in a decision to run for guv? Nope — for Ron Ramsey, it’s all about ’show me the money’:
