Big Clue On A Future Bredesen Senate Run Coming Soon

Posted on May 5, 2009 at 1:54 pm

Ken Whitehouse on whether the governor will sign all this gun legislation coming out the General Assembly, let it pass without his signature or veto it.

[I]f he has any desire to run for U.S. Senate in the next 10 years, a veto would hurt him in rural areas of the state.

There is no winning any statewide campaign without significant support from rural communities. While the metropolitan areas as a whole seem to have a distaste for this legislation, they would get over Bredesen signing it into law.

But anyone who tells you for sure they know what Bredesen will do is really just taking a shot in the dark.

Not only that, but overturning a veto just takes a constitutional majority in both houses to over rise… which is what it takes to pass legislation anyway. It would be silly for any Tennessee governor to try to veto legislation passed in both houses, unless he just wanted to make a personal statement: “I am against guns…” or something.

Interesting math. Wonder what Bredesen would do without support from the urban communities?

As a Nashville resident, I’m sick of being thrown under the bus in favor of pinheaded legislation like this.

Not that it’s gonna last, after the deaths that are going to ensue from this bill.

Bredesen for Senate? I think I’d rather have Kent Williams at this point; he’s actually got the ‘nads to stand up to the Republicans.

[...] Guns, Guns, Guns are the Tennessee Legislature’s favorite topic. I still maintain that the locals have not heard from their elected officials. Bluto has a good write-up about this. [...]
