Ramsey On The Haslam Truck Stop Price-Gouging Settlement

Posted on April 16, 2009 at 12:52 pm

The Lt. Governor subtly confirms, yes, you will likely see this in a mailer some day:

“I won’t bring that up … yet. The fact that this is the third state that’s happened in, I wasn’t going to point that out.”

UPDATE: Democrat Ward Cammack gives us a little general election preview:

“Government should never allow unscrupulous businesses to take advantage of consumers during times of crisis. As governor, my administration will build on Governor Bredesen’s vigilance in cracking down on such indefensible actions.”

Looks like ole Ron is getting deperate! He can’t raise any money so he’s going to start slinging mud.

He’s probably doing this to take the heat off of himself for wanting the change the fundraising laws for his own benefit.

Hey Ron: Nice try. Only place you’re going is back to the state senate.

Nate, do you really think Ron Ramsey can’t raise money? Do you pay attention at all to Tennessee politics? Nobody will be able to touch the personal fortune that Haslam can drop into the race, but even a Ron Ramsey that finishes second in the GOP primary will out-raise what the Democrat nominee brings in for the entire campaign.

You people do know Ramsey can’t raise money during legislative session right?

    Lord, why do we try?

One person who is bringing in the money is Gibbons and he is going to shock the GOP primary.

Ohh, that is rich, Ronald…although Ramsey is not biologically related to former King Pharmaceuticals, Inc. CEO John M. Gregory, Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey is definitely a “made man” (as is Rep. Jason Mumpower) in Gregory’s Altace syndicate for King-Monarch Pharmaceuticals.

Then State Senator Ron Ramsey (in his own words) organized an August 1999 lobbying airlift from Northeast Tennessee aboard King Pharmaceuticals owned corporate aircraft and flew to Nashville meeting with TennCare Director Brian Lapps that was also attended by then State Representatives Jason Mumpower, Steve Godsey, and David Davis at the request of King Pharmaceuticals lobbyist AP news article “Leading Democrats castigate King Pharmaceuticals.” September 30, 2004. and former Tennessee State Senator James “Jim” L. Holcomb. The meeting was successful in placing the recently acquired Monarch Pharmaceuticals (a King Pharmaceuticals subsidiary) branded drug Ramipril|Altace onto the TennCare Preferred Drug List within only 33 days. “Leading Democrats castigate King Pharmaceuticals.” Associated Press. September 30, 2004.

And while there is plenty of information detailing how various agencies of federal government (e.g. Medicaid alone to the tune 0f $124 million) were overcharged for the King-Monarch Pharma branded Altace, I have yet to see any such report released by the State of Tennessee spelling out how much TennCare and other Tennessee agencies were charged for Altace and other King and Monarch pharmaceutical products in comparison with the Medicaid overcharging for similar products.

While Knoxville, Tennessee had the highest-in-the-nation gas prices in the wake of Hurricane Ike in the Gulf Coast, Democrats today called on Republican Speaker Ron Ramsey and scores of Republican PAC’s and candidates who have received in excess of $40,000 from Pilot Oil Corp. executives, a company being investigated in Florida for price gouging, to return the tainted funds.

“Tennessee consumers and voters share a similar quality:  Neither want to be held over a barrel while oil and gas companies artificially inflate their prices,” Tennessee Democratic Party spokesman Wade Munday said.
