An Unhypocritical Tea Partier

Rob Shearer thinks those who got us into the economic mess we are in should be held accountable — Democrat and Republican alike:

The Republican congressmen who voted for the budgets of 2000-2006 should be primary-challenged and replaced with fiscal conservatives. The Republican members of congress who voted for the Wall Street bailouts should be primary-challenged and replaced with fiscal conservatives.

This is the general mood of most “Tea Partiers” that I’ve come across. The Democrat Party followers who are trying to say that the Tea Partiers aren’t calling out Republicans (and Bush…the center of their hatred…kind of like they used to call out Republicans for hating Clinton even after he was gone) are just using their talking points to try to discredit the movement.

The Boston tea revolt was over a change in the method of taxation — the Sons of Liberty objected to direct imposition of taxation by Parliament at predefined rates on goods everyone purchased and wanted to restore the former indirect method where Parliament requested money from colonial legislatures and they raised money by prevailing on the wealthy through luxury taxes on bigger houses, fast horses and the like.

So, if their logic is to be followed, they’re asking for punitive taxes on the rich, collected by their state legislature and then given to the feds. Idiots.
