Herron A Go For Guv

Posted on April 8, 2009 at 7:07 am

Ken Whitehouse reports that the state senator representing some of the most economically distressed areas of the state is running for governor:

The word that has come down from on high – well, at least the 16th floor of the Nashville City Center – is that State Sen. Roy Herron (D-Dresden) is running for governor.

Herron’s name had been widely circulated in the Democratic ranks as being on the verge of throwing his hat into the 2010 governor’s race. According to several NashvillePost.com sources that were in the room, Herron said that he is definitely a candidate.

Herron is the real deal. He will connect with rural voters in a way no other Dem has done in years.

Maybe Herron can do for the state what he has done for his Senate district. The highest unemployment in the state. Lowest education rate. Poorer than dirt.

He’s been a state senator for 13 years now and there are still no four lane roads in Perry County. They said Roy dug up Cotton Ivy last year and had a BBQ in that area with him. Cotton told a few stories/jokes about Williamson County GOPers throwing rocks at the poor kids in the 30’s and being so poor during the Hoover years he had to climb a tree to eat persimmons. Everybody gasped/laughed and then Roy gave them their sandwich and sams cola and sent everyone back home to live in poverty.

How can he raise money for the senate caucus while raising money for his own ill-fated gubernatorial campaign? And if/when he loses a primary, will he just give up on winning any seats in the senate?

Roy Herron is the poster boy for the problems with state government. He’s been in office for over two decades, and he has done nothing for the people of his district. He wants to keep them poor and uneducated so they’ll continue voting for him.

Herron is nothing but a creature of ambition. He doesn’t care about people. He only cares about running for higher office.

Someone tell me one thing he has accomplished in over 20 years in office.

Roy Herron is one of the finest people I’ve ever known. Tennessee needs a person with his depth and resolve as governor!

For a 1/4 century, Roy Herron has been wallowing around in the ethical and intellectual cesspool that is the Tennessee General Assembly. Why is it that we can only get these self-interested insiders to run for anything?

I think Roy will be a good candidate, and he would be a good Governor. In fact, I like all of our candidates or potential candidates — McMillan, Herron, Cammack, McWherter, and Horne.

Let’s be clear about one thing: we don’t need Republican Governor to facilitate our regression back into the attitudes of the 1930s.

Dan, Cotton Ivy is still very much alive.
