Lofty Artistic Intentions Of Graphic Designers

The new TNDP logo explained:

The new TNDP logo represents the positive changes in our party as we move forward into a new era of leadership locally and nationally. Using colors matched to those of the successful Presidential campaign of 2008 and the flag of Tennessee, this new logo communicates many of our proud traditions as well as the renewed interest throughout our state in what the Democratic Party has to offer.

The open type style of the logo is designed to represent modernization, simplicity and transparency. The use of lower case letters conveys the idea of a party that does not take itself too seriously and exists as an extension of the people, in service to the people.

I liked the old logo better but this one could grow on me.

    OMG!!!! WTF!!!!

Did Chairgimp Chipper and the Chipinista hold one of them there “salons” to come up with this load of horse hooey? This logo looks like a couple of undergrads with Sharpie’s whipped it up while waiting on the ramen noodles to cook.

As for the “explanation,” STFU! IMHO.

As a general rule, if you have to explain a logo, it isn’t working.

Much as it may pain me to agree with Jellyfinger, I have to this time. That was my first thought on seeing the “explanation”. And frankly, the logo doesn’t make my socks go up and down. The upper stem for the d being between the t and the n takes away from readability. You should be able to see it and instantly think “TNDP” instead of “TN… huh?”

Never has so much attention been focused on something so meaningless. And that’s saying a lot for the Tennessee Democratic Party. This abnormal obsession with the logo aesthetics may very well go down in TNDP history as an example of Chip’s aimless reign. You can almost hear the Chipinista holed up in their “Nerve Center” saying, “Fundraising, schmundraising. Who cares about money. What really need is a logo that signals ‘transparency.’ Yeah, that’s the ticket.”

I didn’t have any trouble reading the logo; but as far as what it stands for, the Dems in this state haven’t decided yet.

I love the logo. But I agree with Donna… the TNDP hasn’t decided what it stands for, yet.

But the new logo, and the clear efforts to open up the party have gotten my interest and donation.

By the way, I’m an independent.

There appears to be some kind of weird intra-party fighting fetish with this guy Chip Forrester…

I guess that explains how the Democratic Party lost in Tennessee when the rest of the country moved forward… divided they fail.

And it sure does seem like there are some big cry-babies pouting in their corner of the playground because they don’t want to share the ball and have a bigger, better team.

and folks wonder why i’m independent…

I always appreciate critique, so I’m not going to get real wrapped up in this trolling. I have a ton of better things to do.

However, my response to the TN GOP and to any person thinking that applying thought to logo design is not relevant to party politics is as follows.

For all the pissing and moaning of the “old guard”, I’m not feeling too sorry. Next time elections get won on your watch, with your ugly and drab downhill-trudging, dark-blue donkey that looks like it’s from the 50s, you let me know. Till then, let’s try something new.

Barack Obama’s logo was carefully conceived and selected, and the candidate himself didn’t even think it was the best first choice. However, the staff did, and now look. It’s one of the most successful logos of all time.

The TN GOP can win with logos that look like they were created in Microsoft Word for as long as they like if the Democrats don’t wise up and get together like we’re working do hard to do. Yes, logos are the icing on the cake of a good message and platform. However, it is the people that make the difference. Our much nicer logo will represent us well over time, and the dark and evil GOP logo will come to stand for just that in it’s own time, too.

So yeah… I humbly submit those ideas and walk away. I have other useless things to design…

First thing that came to mind was Tennessee Dips.
    Jason Walker,
I don’t recall that Tennessee was the only state that didn’t go for Obama. I sure missed that electoral map!
52% of the vote doesn’t mean that the whole country bought into the Obama mystique. It means 48% of the voters weren’t impressed.

For a logotype that is supposed to represent “moving forward” and “modernization”, this sophomoric display looks to be something out of a 1970s social studies text book. The logotype should and does reflect on the state and aspirations of the party, and, unfortunately in this case it misses the mark (or perhaps it is spot on, given the fact this somehow got approved). To compare this to the brilliant Barack Obama campaign is ludicrous.

Lucas, chill. It’s just a freakin’ logo that looks like a dick raping tennessee. It’s not Picasso.
