So, Gun To Your Head, Will Wamp Be On The Ballot For Guv in 2010?

Posted on March 22, 2009 at 9:24 pm

So it appears that the AP has picked up on Andy Sher’s article about the 3rd District Congressional race which reveals that only on Republican has out and out said they are running.

Of course, the subtext of the article is why? If the Third District seat, a solid Republican seat, is truly open then why haven’t more serious candidates for the spot announced or at least strongly implied an announcement is all but a formality?

Are some Republicans still waiting to see if Zach Wamp is truly committed to the Governor’s race? Of course, he has denied he will ever drop out and stated emphatically that his congressional over. Do some folks remain unconvinced?

Will Rep. Zach Wamp be on the August 2010 Republican Primary ballot for governor?

If Wamp doen’t run, it won’t be because of Ron Ramsey. It will be because of money, and the guy to fear there is Haslam.

But he knew Haslam was in when he announced. Ramsey was still a big question mark. Changes the equation a bit.

Why give up a safe seat in Congress to finish third in the primary? By any measure, it’s a long-shot for Zach Wamp. He’s got plenty of time to play statewide-candidate and raise his profile without giving up his Congressional seat. When push comes to shove, Wamp will remain in Congress.

    ACK -

Zach told me that he’s in the race for Governor until the campaign ends next November. He has that look of a guy who is done with D.C. - the same look that Ed Bryant and Fred Thompson had after their exits.

I think he’s in it until the end. I really do.

As for the 3rd District, it appears that several people are waiting to see if Robin Smith gets in - which is truly remarkable for someone who hasn’t held an elected office.

    Cheers,

    Rob

I don’t think we should elect a person to be our that has been in D.C.

Wamp also voted for the AIG bonuses

I think it will be at least another decade before this state elects another GOP Congressman as its Governor. The Sundquist debacle is still too fresh on everyones mind. Ramsey or Haslam is more than likely going to be the next Governor. Wamp will probably go ahead and leave the House. Serving in the minority probably isnt all that much for him.

I am interviewing him today…will see what he has to say, if anything has changed from what he said in the past, which is.. I am in until the end.

I think a better poll would be will Ramsey stay in since he can’t legally raise money until session is out this year and the first of next year.

Many more questions there if you ask me.

I think Zach has made it perfectly clear…matter of fact, this same blog posted an interview he did with Ken Whitehouse just last week where he left no doubt he was in.

I’m sure the Ramsey and Haslam camps appreciate the poll though.

Robin Smith is going to run in my opinion but will wait until June or so to make absolutely sure that Congressman Wamp is still in it by summer. I believe he is; I heard him say to a group of Oak Ridge supporters that he’s through with DC and they all moaned of course. He’s been a great appropriator for them! Don’t underestimate him, he’s one of the best “stump” campaigners I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen a lot of them!)
