Suceeding Wamp

Former state Senator now family issues activist David Fowler offers his analysis on the race to replace Zach Wamp:

Former state Sen. David Fowler, R-Signal Mountain, said he thinks Sen. Watson and Rep. McCormick are positioned to move up in the legislature and that Mrs. Smith is best positioned to run for Congress, given fundraising skills she has developed and ties she has forged with grass-roots GOP activists in Hamilton County and across the district.

“She would be the odds-on favorite,” Mr. Fowler said.

As a working mother, Mrs. Smith said she has to work out two issues before she decides to make a run: making sure her decision is good for her family and making sure the decision makes financial sense.

“With a 16-year-old son and an 18-year-old daughter, there are certain expenses that come with a car and university tuition I have to fulfill as a parent,” she said. “It’s just a reality. So at this point I’m … looking at if this is going to work.”

Mrs. Smith would not be the odds on favorite for me for several reasons. First and foremost, and I know I am an odd-ball here and probably most certainly in the minority, though I have met many older folks and some younger one’s as well who agree with me, I believe the Bible teaches that a woman’s primary concern should be to stay at home and take care of her husband, her children and her home. I do not see the public arena generally as a place for a Christian woman to be. In fact, Is 3:12 says that women in leadership is an indication of a country that has turned its back on God’s principles. I will not vote for her particularly if there is a Christian man who is running and he is conservative. I know she has said she is considering her family, but at this point I am not so sure she is. Secondly, it is reprehensible to me as a Vet that a women, and one who has never served in the military even as a nurse or secretary none-the-less, would be casting votes to send men to fight & die for their families. Third, she is not strongly conservative enough for me on some issues. Mr. Gobble said he would have voted against the Bailout that Wamp voted for and Smith says Gobble should not second guess Wamp. I disagree. Wamp was dead-on wrong to vote for such a philosophy. I addressed this topic with a video of a black pastor who disagreed with Palin running for the same reasons at http://markalbertinipolitics.blogspot.com/2009/02/blog-post.html
