Speaker Kent Williams Barred From GOP Caucus Meeting

Posted on March 4, 2009 at 5:04 pm

Robin Smith had no compunction about kicking the Speaker out of the party but before today the House GOP Caucus had balked at official action.

Now it would seem the House Republicans are on their way to kicking the Speaker of the House out of their caucus:

House Speaker Kent Williams was barred from a Republican Caucus meeting Wednesday and House Republican Leader Jason Mumpower said he should stay away permanently.

Williams said he believes a majority of Republican representatives would favor allowing him to caucus with them even though state Republican Chairman Robin Smith has declared he is no longer considered a Republican.

But Mumpower said he and House Republican Chairman Glen Casada could decide to ban Williams from the caucus without a vote.

Mumpower said that he believes that “if even one member” of the House Republican Caucus opposes Williams attendance, Williams should stay away.

“If it causes dissent within the caucus, then it’s best if he did not attend - and there are more than a few members who are discontent with him attending,” said Mumpower.

I would like the personally thank the House GOP caucus for handing the House back the Democratic Party in 2010. Thanks Jason and Glen, we couldn’t have done it with out you guys.

Acted like a Gentleman, my foot! I heard he was yelling at Casada who remained calm during the childish outburst.

Williams admitted it is his intent to divide the GOP Caucus after his temper tantrum.

Since he has spent so much time mocking the Caucus, Robin Smith, the State Republican party and the results of the Nov. 4th 2008 Election, Why would he want to be in the Caucus anyway?

To get Attention of course–that’s what he thrives on. Both sides of the aisle will end up tiring of Williams antics before this session ends. Remember I said that.

Good job. I would root for you to lose if you acted like the enemy (yes, it’s a war, wars have enemies, not “opposition”). The commies have the upper hand. Don’t surrender the state or the country. Fight and if you lose, lose with honor. Being them is not winning for anybody.

OOH! Can Casada & Mumpower feel their POWER slipping away? I think fear motivated this action. It would be funny if the membership votes them out of leadership positions. Wonder what they think they have to gain by this action? Kicking a Speaker out of your caucus just demands that he go to the other one. This really shows that they don’t have the maturity to handle the majorityship. I hope the Speaker told them exactly what kind of crybaby, immature pansies they are.

Williams turned against his fellow Republicans, so any protest that he makes when they turn him away from the caucus is just so much grandstanding. However, they and he should still try to work together towards commonly desired legislation. On another note, can anyone tell me what the heck Idahoser is ranting about? Sounds like a latter-day McCarthy adherent - you know, a commie under every bed.

Do your homework - Williams didn’t turn on the Republican party - he turned on Mumpower, and guys like Kelsey, who violated Reagan’s 11th commandment and came to his home County and annointed their own candidate and campaigned for him agasint their fellow Republican Incumbant Williams in the Republican primary. Add to that, there was NO indication they wouldn’t come right back and try it again if Jason was elected Speaker.

ANYONE who thought Williams was going to vote for Mumpower IF he had an alternative to vote for ANY other Republican to actually win was a fool. Williams found an alternative and took it.

Jason should look in the mirror if he wants to blame someone. And this pathetic attempt to get around a vote in the Caucus is so obvious.
