Please Don’t Tell The Folks Down At Tea Party About This

But a lawmaker has filed a bill calling for an income tax in Tennessee:

Tate contends in the bill that the state has “over-reliance on sales taxes” which “has imposed a hardship on many residents, especially working families and elderly persons with fixed incomes.”

The senator goes on to say in the bill proposal that “Tennessee’s tax system does not produce minimally adequate revenues, even when economic activity is high.”

Tate said if is an income tax is implemented the state taxes will be more fairly shared and reflect family incomes.

At least everyone is already down there…they can start the horn honking as they leave.

DOA? Yeah, probably. Should it pass? You’re damn right it should.

This has very little chance of passing the Republican-controlled Senate, but I am not surprised. As I have said repeatedly. The environment is very similar to the environment during the 1999-2002 income tax wars. Huge shortfalls in the state budgets. Income tax supporters like Justin Wilson and Chip Forrester are in positions of power. There is talk of state employee layoffs. College students are calling for an income tax.

This is an issue that merits a watchful eye.

I’m a college student who is not calling for an income tax. I actually want to be able to keep what I earn after I get out, and there are many more like me.

    Ryan, first…

What makes you think you’re even going to get a job when you get out of college? There’s lots of folks with experience and families to feed in line in front of you.

Thank George W. Bush for that.

Second, even if you do find a job, unless you’re making over $100k, a state income tax won’t affect you. And even it does, the state income tax is deductible on your federal taxes.

Third, don’t forget that anything you “earn” you have not completely earned by yourself. If you are on any kind of financial aid, you are being subsidized by my tax dollars. In fact, if you go to any public or state university, my tax money is paying for you. You’re welcome.

Not only that, but the roads you drive on, the internet and the cheap electricity you use, and the safe water you drink is all made possible by taxes. Oh, and the fact that you’re not speaking German or Japanese now thanks to our “socialized” military that taxes pay for and which keeps all of us free.

So I understand that you’re still young and impressionable and that maybe Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity really sound like they know what they’re talking about…

But they don’t. They’re millionaires who are lying to you so that you help them get tax breaks. Plain and simple.

You have - and will - benefit if a state income tax is passed in this state. Which of course it won’t because there are too many people like you still left out there who listen to liars and don’t think these things through all the way.

Anyway, good luck with that whole job thing.
