The Biggest Since O’Reilly: Fred Thompson Show To Launch

Posted on February 23, 2009 at 11:15 am

From a press release:

Westwood One is pleased to announce that The Fred Thompson Show will debut on March 2nd on more than 125 stations including key market clearances in Washington D.C., Dallas, Houston and Minneapolis.

“Of all the radio talkers out there, how many can say they’ve debated in the Senate; campaigned for President of the United States; had a successful TV career on Law and Order and shared the screen with Morgan Freeman, Bruce Willis, Robert De Niro and Sissy Spacek?” said Bart Tessler, EVP Westwood One News & Talk Programming. “Thompson is as unique as they come and that will make for exceptional radio.”

“This will be the biggest talk radio launch since Bill O’Reilly,” said Dennis Green, Westwood One EVP Affiliate Sales. “We have not even hit the air and radio stations from coast to coast are ready for Fred Thompson to speak to their audiences about the issues that matter.”

WTN 99.7 will be the Thompson Nashville affiliate.

Hype that closely resembles the breathless anticipation of Grandpa’s entry into the presidential race, which was very close to the biggest flop of the last three decades.

How long before he falls asleep on the air?

He’s actually quite a good talker. Wasn’t enough for a presidential campaign - but I think he’ll fare VERY well as a radio host.

Although I like Fred Thompson, he has a hard time slot in Nashville (11a-2p). This is also the time slot which Rush Limbaugh, the King of Conservative Talk Radio, is on WLAC 1510 AM.

With his wife involved, it may be like a “Regis and Kathie Lee” radio show, but we will see.

It is hard for me to get excited about someone who flip flopped through the nomination process with an eye for whatever reason he ran, accepted my campaign contribution (twice) after begging for grassroots support, the dropping out surely knowing that McCain was to be the ultimate winner? The stickers are still on my vehicle because I hated all the other choices now I am supposed to get excited because his presense might send chills up my leg???? Not today, not tomorrow not ever! GOP, you lost, this whole nation lost because of the dim wit choices of this man and the others vying for whatever….Makes one wonder where that third party is with all this propaganda….well, we always have Outer Limits.

I don’t know how they came up with a split schedule for him. (an hour in the afternoon and an hour late night).

He like others won’t stand a chance against Rush so they should have left the nut case there and got their moneys worth out of him.

I will listen to the night show but not the day time hour.

Fred Thompson is almost a true Conservative, and for that reason I supported him during the short time he ran in the campaign, and I would have voted for him had he not given up so early and taken my cash contributions with him. I’m still waiting to hear him elaborate on why he surrendered to the liberals’ efforts to oust him from the race as he has never given us a detailed reason for doing this. The part of Fred Thompson that is not a Conservative is his support of the legalized robbery of tobacco users when he and Frist voted in favor of the tobacco settlement that diverted trillions of dollars away from the private sector into the state and federal governments. It truly wasn’t about tobacco or cigarettes. It was about freedom being taken away or severely hampered which is about socialism. I’ll try to listen to him for the first hour until Rush comes on, then I’m afraid he will be alone on the air after that as Rush has always been there quite unlike Fred.

Fred has the street smarts and past history to bring an enlightened spin to the airwaves duldrums. I can see the theory of the split schedule as I can catch part of the show. As for Rush on AM radio who cares. He is about as relevant as Joaquin Phoenix and his music career

    Dear Mr.Thompson,
I was glad to hear that you were taking Bill Orielly place with your own show. You were my pick for the republican candidate for president. I was so disappointed with the outcome.

I would like to hear you talk about the republican’s adding 40% of the pork bills to Mr. Obama’s spending package. When I heard that I was disgusted. I really don’t think it matters to most congressmen what their constituents want.

Mr. Obama’s agenda has nothing to do with economic recovery but rather to usher in a one party government
in this country. I would like to hear more commentary on that.
    Respectfully,
    Mary Ann Parris

Could you give me a list of stations that you are on and when throughout the United States?
    God Bless you Senator Thompson.

I listened to Freds radio show today and he spoke about GM’s money problems. When he said that nobody wants to buy their cars anymore he insulted me to the inner fiber. I’m sure he insulted many others also. With japan being at corporate war with us its too bad that a bastion like the auto industry has been over run. I hope I don’t live to see the day when my grandkids work for those people. Now I associate Fred with the likes of phil valantine, (a loud idiot that doesn’t know all the facts). A hard part about it is I really liked Fred.
