Tennessee Democratic Party Names A Treasurer

Posted on February 20, 2009 at 1:43 pm

The email blast:

Nashville real estate executive and Democratic activist William H. “Bill” Freeman has signed on as treasurer of the Tennessee Democratic Party, Chairman Chip Forrester announced today.

Freeman is chairman of Freeman Webb, Inc., a real estate investment management and brokerage firm he founded with James A. Webb, III.

Freeman has raised money as treasurer and finance chairman for many local and state political campaigns and officials. Recently, he served as a member of President Barack Obama’s national finance team. He has also been treasurer and finance chairman for the 1986 gubernatorial campaign of former Mayor Richard Fulton, for State Senator Joe Haynes, and for Davidson County Circuit Court Judge Barbara Haynes, among others.

“I could not be more thrilled about having Bill coming on board as treasurer,” said Forrester, who was elected Party chair January 24. “He brings a vast amount of financial expertise, business acumen, and political savvy to the Tennessee Democratic Party operation.”

“With Bill leading our financial and fund-raising operation, Tennessee Democrats can look forward to renewed success,” Forrester said.

Freeman said he eagerly anticipates his new role.

“I’ve long been a supporter of the Democratic Party and of our state’s Democratic officials,” he said. “I was honored to be able to help President Obama, and I’m excited about using my skills to aid our current elected officials and create new opportunities to build a Democratic majority in Tennessee.”

    Well, there’s your big money.

Two points to Mr Braisted. :)

Oh, sure Mr. Freeman says all this stuff in a press release, but what does he REALLY feel about Chip Forrester? Cue trolls in 3…2…1…

Can we start saying “Freemanistas” now, heatseeker, or have you gotten that copyrighted already?

    Nah, still Chipinistas.

I’m just shocked it only took Chipper a month to find a treasurer. Wow!!!! That’s greased lightnin’ fast for Chipper, seeing as how it takes him four or five days to put out press releases.

Speaking of which, this is like what? his third press release? Wow! That boy is burning it up today. I tell you.

Yeah, well, does the treasurer really raise money for a party? Since Chipper was the treasurer for the last four years of TNDP, I would say, NNNNNaaaaahhhhh!!

    Oh, sorry, one other point.

So Chipper named another Nashvillian to be treasurer. Are you Chipinista getting the sneaking suspicion that Chipper don’t know no one outside of Nashville - being an effete urban liberal and all?

  6. February 20th, 2009 3:09 pm

Well, first off, Chip doesn’t “choose” the Treasurer, the TNDP Exec Committee does. Second, had Bone been elected Chair, then both positions would’ve been filled by a Nashvillian as well. And the last combination (last two I believe) were Nashville based.

  7. Heatseeker writes
    February 20th, 2009 3:18 pm

Oh, bullshit, Sean. The executive committee will “elect” whoever Chipper wants, I’m sure.

Okay, Bone’s a Nashvillian, too. Just backs up my point. So answer the question: Does Chipper even know anyone outside of Nashville?

I’m looking at the TN Democratic Party website. Of the 78 EC members, six are from Nashville. Maybe someone in the know could explain how the 8% of the executive committee from Nashville could have put the fix in for Chip. Maybe with the help of the additional ten members (12%) from Memphis? That gets us up to 20% of the whole group.

Or maybe these Republican stooges are just full of crap.

  9. February 20th, 2009 4:06 pm

    DG,

Yeah, but those people are Nashville plants!!! You see, this is all part of a conspiracy instituted by Chip 20 years ago to stack the committee with his supporters. He moved them out from Nashville and placed them strategically across the state. He waited until all the right pieces were in place and BOOM! He stole the Chairmanship.

Oh, and btw, where is Obama’s Birth Certificate?

Neither does our side. Harrison and Heatseeker aren’t on a side so much as they are on an alternate plane of existence.

Spaz, I think instead of calling ourselves Freemanistas, we should just call ourselves Freemasons. Then it’ll REALLY be a conspiracy!

Sorry, I mis-sorted the list. There are EIGHT executive committee members from Nashville, or 10%. Add that to the ten from Memphis, and we find that a cabal of 22% of the body, including such elitists as Inez Crutchfield and Henry Hooper, who I’m sure are busy all the time setting up Facebook pages and working the social media angle to get the rest of the executive committee on board with Chip.

Following up … Talking Point #1 for the TNGOP next time Chairman Chip lets fly another attack on Lamar or Corker:

“Chip Forrester has no business criticizing Tennessee’s senators when his hand-picked treasurer for the Tennessee Democratic Party supported both of them in their bids for Congress.”

Oh my God. How many days has it been since Forrester’s “election?” Twenty-something? I would have given him at least a couple of months before rendering himself completely feckless. But give the man a gold star: He’s done it in record time!

Next thing you know, he’s going to be supporting a Republican for House speaker. Oh wait … nevermind.

I just saw a news flash that said the Associated Press is reporting that Freeman is a heavy donor to Republican causes. I’m blown away by Chip’s stupidity. He just appointed as treasurer a guy who’s apparently given tens of thousands of dollars to the other party, which Chip claims is a bunch of racists. Can anyone hear the giant sucking sound on the TNDP Executive Committee? That, my friends, is the sound of buyers’ remorse. It’s a sound that no doubt will be heard frequently in the coming months. In the immortal words of WWF legend Ric Flair: “Whether you like it, or you don’t like it, learn to love it. ‘Cause it’s the best thing going today. Woooo!”

Freeman’s donations to Corker stopped in 2005. Last donation to Corker was 4/8/05, over 18 months before the election. If you’ll remember, at that time, Corker was in the PRIMARY against Ed Bryant and … who was the other guy? Van Hilleary, I think. More info on that at opensecrets.org. The money wasn’t given in oppo to Harold Ford. It was given in oppo to Bryant/Hilleary.

  26. Friday writes
    February 21st, 2009 2:22 pm

Freeman gave $500 to Ford in November 2005. By the way, JTP is right - 4/8/05 was when Freeman last gave to Corker. As it turns out, Harold Ford Jr. didn’t even file his candidacy papers until May 25, 2005. So, Freeman gave to Corker only until Ford entered the race. Then, he stopped giving to Corker and gave to Ford.

  27. Harrison writes
    February 21st, 2009 2:25 pm

Nice try. Let’s assume that’s what was going on. But how do you explain the gifts to Frist’s PAC. Or gifts to the Republican National Committee that now are being reported by the Associated Press? Or gifts to Van Hilleary and Jim Bryson in the ‘02 and ‘06 general elections also being reported by AP? Face it: Chip’s first big move just boomeranged back and took his head off.

  28. Heatseeker writes
    February 21st, 2009 2:58 pm

Come on, Chipinsta. That was weak.

Everyone knew Ford was running. He had been actively campaigning for months. Who gives a rancid rats ass when he filed his paperwork?

If I remember correctly, all of the pundits felt all along that Corker was Ford’s strongest opponent, that Ford would be better off running against Hilleary or Bryant. By helping Corker win the primary, Freeman helped screw Ford. Period.

For a bunch of crybabies that have whined forever about anonymous commentors, why are you guys going anonymous so suddenly? Huh? Not feeling so good about standing on the deck of the S.S. Chipper? Things starting to tilt? Starting to get a sinking sensation??????

Or better yet, maybe Joe the Plumber is actually Chipper the Knucklehead and Friday is Bill Freeman - as in Friday was my first day as TNDP treasurer and Friday was my LAST day as TNDP treasurer.

Oh, man, sometimes I just slay myself.

Can Chip just name a treasurer? Doesn’t the Executive Committee have to ratify that? If so, will they? Do they have any sort of collective common sense at all?

Is is acceptable that this guy gave $5,000 to both of the the Republican NOMINEES against the Democratic nominee, Phil Bredesen, in 2002 and 2006? Is there a member of the ED who thinks this is appropriate? Is there a single supporter of Forrester who still thinks this Governor or any other Democratic elected official or any other yellow dog Democrat for that matter has any sort of obligation to help the TNDP at this point?

Didn’t Forrester lead the charge against Kurita because she supported a Republican over a Democrat? Don’t the bylaws of the party require that in its TNDP officers?

I had resolved to get off of the subject of how much Forrester sucks pending results of Jackson Day and the first quarter fundraising. But, for god’s sake. This is just crazy.

He gave $5,000 to the Republican nominee for Governor in 2002. He gave the same amount to the Republican nominee for Governor in 2006.

Channel 4 just did a piece on this. Freeman gave eight times more to Corker than to Ford. $500 to Ford from a multi-millionaire real estate developer???? A supposed Democrat???? That’s an insult.

I made calls for Harold. I knocked on doors for Harold. And Freeman funded Corker. Why should he be our treasurer?

“In the 2006 U.S. Senate race, Freeman gave $4,100 to Republican Bob Corker and $500 to Democrat Harold Ford. Corker won that race by fewer than 3 percentage points.”

Again, Freeman is a goddamn liar (see above). Forrester is an incompetent idiot. The State Democratic Executve Committee is a bunch of gullible fools.
