Dancing Cheek To Glasgow: Big Time Dem Supports Gay GOP Primary Voter

Posted on February 19, 2009 at 4:48 pm

Pouring a bit of gasoline on the whole David Glasgow is a Republican contro, Democratic smallwig William T. Cheek, III has sent off an email recently to “about 75 to 100″ Democratic friends “in or close to” District 18 defending Glasgow against charges that his Republican primary voting record disqualifies him from serving the very liberal District 18:

This blue dog Democrat, son of former Democratic state party chair and Democratic National Committee member Will Cheek, carefully vetted and strongly supports David Glasgow. I am in agreement with David on the issues important to Council District 18. Whether he pulled the R or D lever isn’t the test for this office.

There are no political parties in our City Council. The Council often works much better than Congress or our State Legislature, where partisan bickering can lead to gridlock. Council members choose to vote for or against a law based on the merits of the law; not which political party proposed the law. One day you may see Council Members Charlie Tygard and Mike Jameson working vigorously against each other on Conservation Zoning, and find them working together the next day on tree plantings. That’s the beauty of a non-partisan legislature.

David Glasgow has earned the support of a number of life long Democrats because of his vision for our neighborhoods and our city. His experience in government gives him an edge over other candidates - he knows how to get important government projects done. We shouldn’t be distracted by whose administration hired David. We should focus on what skills he has and what he can do for our city.

So baby Will throws Daddy’s name and positions around. Who cares. Baby can not vote in District 18 anyway.

The Glasgow campaign is imploding from the inside out. Will, please don’t tie your family name to this sinking ship.

Let me get this straight (sorry):

Glasgow says he voted in the Republican primaries so he could vote AGAINST certain candidates.

Did he take jobs in Republican administrators to weaken them by taking their money?

Perhaps he intentionally did a bad job so he could erode them from the inside.

    Yeah, that’s the ticket.

When did Will Cheek III become a big time Democrat? This is just bizarre - he sends an email to 75-100 people - who probably did not know about Glasgow being a Republican. So III basically outed Glasgow again. This is priceless.

Having known Will T for more than 50 years, he is a very different Dem than his peers of lesser years. His family like mine and others were “old dog” Democrats who believed in principles of another era. He is a conservative and his party is Democratic, not a left wing nut job. Metro Council is non partisan (at least on surface), so he’s correct in that regard. I personally hope he never has to regret his endorsement of the party in question…Yes, he is the son of Will, Sr. but he remains his own man……

Isn’t the bigger issue that he didn’t vote in multiple Metro elections? He’s a really nice guy who’s probably more progressive than other commenters give him credit for. But if you talk to him, it’s clear he doesn’t have a whole lot of familiarity with Nashville politics.

Love the fact that everyone else is making such a deal about Glasgow’s voting Repub, Dodson has done the same thing before if you search her records.

Some folks are making too big a deal out of it, BHN Resident, but Glasgow seems to be handling it poorly. To rebut he claimed he was a registered independent. No such thing. He then claimed he did it to vote against someone. Really? I guess that’s okay, for a voter, just seems out of character for someone who wants to be a neighborhood representative.

I like Kristine LaLonde and Stephenie Dodson. For me it tilts to LaLonde. I just think she’d be more effective at building support for legislation and fighting against stuff like English Only. And as for the Belmont thing- after meeting her, I have no worries that she’s going to be anybody’s pushover. She’s impressive. Dodson’s been a great schools advocate- I wish she was running for school board.

Watch out Voter in the 18th. The Glasgow campaign will start nasty postings about you and your candidate. That’s how Republican’s operate.
