The Party Is Not The Caucus

Posted on February 18, 2009 at 5:26 pm

But we knew that already. From the AP:

House Speaker Kent Williams is caucusing with members of the party that threw him out.

When the House took a break from a floor session Wednesday to hold brief caucus meetings, Williams strode into the Republican gathering with no fanfare.

UPDATE: Stacey Campfield gives us the first person report:

Many did not even notice as he was in the back corner of the room and it was a short meeting. A few of us did notice and talked to leadership about our discomfort. They were as off put as the rest of us were but realized it was just an attempt by Kent to get attention by our throwing him out. We will see if this lasts. I doubt it will.

We will see if that holds true. I doubt it will.

Politics really IS like high school, isn’t it?

BrassAss makes a very astute observation given that Speaker Williams only has a high school education. The locker room talk directed toward Rep. Lynn now makes since. Speaker Williams hasn’t left high school.

Campfield talks about the “discomfort” they felt? I wonder how the black caucus must have felt?

The black caucus felt uncomfortable because Stacey wanted to know how their finances worked and a copy of their by-laws. You would be uncomfortable too if your years of corruption were called into question.

    Ryan,

Look at the TNGOP by laws, Kent is bona fide under article IX.

And get this, the caucus vote to “agree” with Robin Smith was 26 for 23 against the ouster of Williams as a “Bona Fide” republican.

Also why hasn’t anyone reported that on the Ralph Bristol show she attacked Williams as being “pro-gay?” I’m pro republican, I could care less what you do sexually.

    Devon,

I don’t know where you get your “Facts” Can you point out where this 26/23 vote went down?

As far as TNGOP articles go, you need to read the rules. The chair was given the ability to strip anyone of the title “Republican” by the state executive committee.

If the Dems want him, Please, take him.

Hey Mike Samose, if you are going to make fun of someone having only a high school education, perhaps you should try to spell on at least an 8th grade level. The phrase is “makes sense,” not “makes since.” Oh the irony.

And I bet you voted for English Only if you are from Nashville, cuz yoo thank them emmagrits orta hafta lern Inglish.

BP excellent rejoinder but doesn’t explain the Speakers high school antics.

The TN GOP exec committee vote was most certainly not 26 to 23. Most of the committee members voted and 81 percent of the votes were for the ouster. If 50 voted, that would be 40 votes for ouster, 10 against. My sources tell me that is about what the vote total was.
