Rep. Swafford Provokes Outrage In Democratic Legislators

Posted on February 12, 2009 at 10:55 am

Jeff Woods reports the reaction of some lawmakers upon hearing that Rep. Eric Swafford had joined a fringe movement that questions President Obama’s citizenship:

“I actually asked Eric for his [birth certificate] this morning. I told him I wanted to see his. He said he had it in his office. I think it’s shenanigans. I don’t see how some of these people get elected. I’m just tickled to death I’m not in a leadership position in the Republican Party. That heart attack I had yesterday would have been for real probably.”

Later, Miller launched into a tirade against the state GOP for what he called racist actions, citing Chip Saltsman’s “Barack the Magic Negro” CD and the “blackbird mailer” sent against Nathan Vaughn in last year’s campaigns.

“What’s wrong with the Republican Party?” asked Miller, who is black. “There’s always something coming out of the Republican Party in the state of Tennessee, something racist, something goofy. What is the mentality of these kind of people who continuously make these kind of goofy statements? It’s embarrassing. We’re the joke of the nation, and they continue to make us the joke of the nation.”

I don’t hear outrage. More utter disbelief at the absurdity of the TNGOP.

Hey, what time is the press conference by TNGOP expelling Abraham Lincoln from the Republican Party for first opposing emancipation from slavery, then embracing it?

Where are the righteous members of TNGOP’s Basiji Force when you need them? I mean, you gotta stand for somethin’ or you’ll fall for anything, right?

The more that the far right line up to damage their credibility, the happier I am. Don’t they realize that their categorical opposition to Obama on every issue dilutes the strength of their outrage across the board?

I guess what it comes down to is that there are more than a few people for whom no position is fringe enough not to support. You would think that this would lead them to question what they’re doing, but hey, it kind of worked when they were out to get Clinton, so why not?

That categorical opposition to Obama will come back to haunt the GOP when those guaranteed 4 million jobs materialize in the next 6-9 months! At least a half million of those could come from working with ACORN on the census or the National Conference for Civil Rights on the conversion to digital television. Unless of course the NCCR has employees working double-time on the digital TV thing and fighting for judicial nominees?

Just to preempt the wingnuts asking where his birth certificate is: http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/born_in_the_usa.html

Not that a legal document would mean anything to them.

“What’s wrong with the Republican Party?” asked Miller.

    Quick answer: they’re fascists.

Why doesn’t the O-hole just release his real birth certificate and be done with it?

    Why is he playing games?

The COLB is not the same as a birth certificate. Who supplied the information that was used to fill out the COLB?

No morpheus. We’re not bigoted socialists like you. We just want to make sure that the Constitution is being followed.

Is it racist to ask for proof?

He was elected by the PEOPLE!!! If you want to see a birth certificate look at Factcheck.org. You are racist haters who can’t accept a black man as your president. All you rich white people are going to get it. I can’t wait. HATERS!!!

Why would anyone want ACORN working on the census? Oh I forgot–they are masters of fraud and abuse. They could count more Democrats to help with re-districting.

And BTW, Bdoggin—most rich white peoiple are liberals. Republicans have their fair share of middle class folks who work hard to raise their families and create jobs for others in this country. And in all colors, too!

    Bdoggin,

How is it racist to ask for proof?

That thing on “factcheck” is not a birth certificate. We just want to make sure the Constitution is being followed.
