Rep. Debra Maggart Wants To Burn Down Years And Years Of Tennessee Tradition

Posted on February 12, 2009 at 8:25 pm

…and have voters register by party:

“I do think it’s time for our state to take a look at this proposal and see if it’s something that we think would be good for both parties and for the state of Tennessee,” said Maggart.

Both parties have recently had problems with what they call crossover voting.

I vote Republican in nine out of ten elections, but if the Republicans push this I’ll be happy to register AND VOTE as a Democrat.

What a stupid and suicidal move Maggart.

TRY to remember, YOU are a representative of YOUR CONSTITUENTS, the PEOPLE, NOT the PARTY.

If you are going to change the party you claim to vote for based on what amounts to a procedural move rather than a substantive issue, then maybe you shouldn’t be voting…

How about something more productive like allowing us to vote on Lt. Gov and Constitutional Officers? You know, real power to the people.

This has got to be the worst representation of the Republican Party - EVER! What’s WRONG with these people? Are they so brainwashed they can’t see reality anymore? Of course, Maggart IS one of the Robin Smith, Susan Lynn, Mumpower crew members. What else could we expect? Certainly not fair representation. They may lose some power that way.

You knew we’d have to hear from the Smith-obsessed whack job on this one.

It’s ll about Smith. I see Smiths everywhere. They are following me. OMG there’s a robin outside my window!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!

This is exactly the kind of liberal tool that doens’t need to be meddling in GOP primaries.

The Republican Party has been striving for years to become a small, insular sect of true believers, tangential to the larger world of ideas and events. This should speed that process up.

Those pesky crossover voters, diluting the extremist lib and con voters …

On the other hand, I think this could be a good thing if this means we can register as Libertarian, Green, Constitution, etc party voters and participate in primaries for them. If Maggart is going to restrict voting in primaries, she may as well support ballot access for third parties in this state.

    Reality,

IF someone is more conservative than you CLAIM to be, does that mean they get to challenge your bonafides in a republican primary if we go to registration? Just curious.

I’ve been working for the Republican Party for more than 15 years as a local officer. Your statement would seem to indicate that because I think we should have open primaries that I’m a “liberal tool” that doesn’t have any business meddling in republican primaries? I’d love to hear what you think the standard should be for party affiliation?

Well whatever the standard, the KentPoodle ain’t gonna meet it.

I suppose anyone could make a claim against a person’s bona feedeees. But it’s not a difficult thing to prove your cred if you have a history of voting in primaries or supporting the party or, you know, not selling your soul to Jimmy Naifeh for a two year stint as a powerless puppet.

I could say I’ve worked for the party since 1912. Doesn’t make it true. If I’m on a blog trashing every Republican this side of Morristown 24/7, it’s going to call my credibility into question. John McCain is proof enough that we don’t need have people messing in our biz if they dont have our interests at heart.

Ok, does that mean you wouldn’t have John McCain as a member of the Republican Party, or just the people that voted for him? Just trying to see how far we go with this?

  13. Reality writes

I didn’t vote for him but I wouldn’t kick him to the curb. He is however a prime example of letting the other party interfere with the selection of candidates in open primaries (Florida, New Hampshire).

In this particular we are talking about a specific bylaw violation that waranted giving the KentPoodle the boot.

All this smoke you are blowing notwithstanding, it’s pretty easy to tell from history and action if a challenge to a person’s status should be upheld. If we have registration it keeps everyone honest and we don’t have these Williams/Cole idiots clouding up the system. Loyal members of each party can decide the course they wish their party to take without outside influence and you and that Revolution weirdo can openly worship Obama to your heart’s content.

That’s hiliarious! You are so closed minded you think I’m an Obama supporter because I don’t think Williams should have been removed by the state party?

How many hours did you spend taking your vacation and volunteering in Florida for the Republicans this year? Or did you just sit behind your computer and whine about Obama on these blogs? People with your frame of mind are going to get us futher behind in the mid-term elections if the economy turns around by then. Our party shouldn’t have to hang it’s hope of taking back control on their failure! We are right after all!

And with respect to whether you believe me or not about my party loyalty, guess what…no one really cares what you believe.

You’re not kidding I’m obsessed. Obsessed with tossing the Mumsters and their fellow trolls out of Tennessee politics. What person in their right mind thinks it’s ok to further restrict the people’s right to vote the way they want to? Many counties do not have even close to an equal amount of members in each party, so is that really fair? I guess, thinking from your agenda’s view, its fair for the Republican Party. If this bill were to pass, the Republicans could potentially hold power in TN for many, many years. We are losing our rights slowly but surely;this will only cause the erosion to happen at a faster pace. The Democrats will be doing a good enough job of that in the future, I believe. I believe the Mumsters would have put their people in place to take this all the way through the legislature if he would have become Speaker. Good thing Speaker Williams realized they were taking the party loyalty crap way too far when Maggart told him to vote with the rest of the Republicans in that Rep. Caucus “memo” she sent out. I’m glad he’s in position to stop that bill of hers. The Mumsters are always up to make a law to fit their agenda without thinking about the repercussions that same law could mean to THEM and more importantly, those they represent, one day.

Okay, startinarevolution–you have answered my question. Now we get the opposition. BTW, the House Democrats filed a sililar bill. What are they up to?

Are you obsessed with getting them out? Will your beloved Speaker Williams kill their bill?

    Debra Maggart,
I can’t believe you don’t see the need to have law requirements for the purchasing guns. That senseless death in Tenn, your state wasn’t necessary. I actually never thought about folks buying guns who can’t legally drink, let alone vote. We have are values messed up. I hope you change your views because I’m gonne be writing every day and everyone about this issue. Its senseless to arm folks this way!
