Oh, No You Didn’t

Posted on February 9, 2009 at 1:03 pm

Micahel Silence exemplifies the attitude of the East Tennessee Republican in reacting to the TNGOP’s ousting of Speaker Kent Williams:

The people of Carter County ought to vote to oust the GOP from the county. After all, it seems to me that if the state GOP is going to nullify their votes, then the people of Carter County can nollify the party. Residents voted for Williams as a Republican. The party says no you didn’t. Again, that seems a wee bit arrogant. In the meantime, the state party has removed Williams as the villain and made him the victim. Add to that latter list the voters of Carter County.

I haven’t spoken to one person yet who is happy with Robin Smith. All Republicans in the Carter County Party should leave it. We don’t need them, anyway. We can form our own independent party. It would send the strongest message we could send to the National Committee. Our county chairman, Mr. Bowers, is great and I would hate to do that to him, but we should make an example of Smith. I feel as though my voting rights have been violated by Smith. Who is SHE to tell US who’s a Republican? How long has this law been on the books?

She doesn’t just decide who is and isn’t one, the bylaws do. The vote of the people of Carter county has not been overturned, Kent is still in office.

The people of Tennessee voted in a Republican majority and for a change in how this state is run. Kent “nullified” the vote of the people.

If you don’t like the Bylaws of the Tennessee Republican Party, the don”t use their brand name to get elected and get out.

Chairman Smith is just following the By-laws of her party. And doing her job as Chairman.

williams knew these were the bylaws before he voted for Jimmy Naifeh in 2006–his first vote he ever cast.

Guys, please! Be careful what you wish for. We don’t want to have to try to win a state-wide election without northeast Tennessee.
