GOP Operative Will Plead No Contest To Vaughn Website Shenanigans

Posted on February 9, 2009 at 1:48 pm

Tom Humphrey reports:

A Kingsport lawyer says that Scott Gilmer, a state House Republican Caucus staffer, will enter a plea of nolo contendre, or “no contest,” to misdemeanor charges that he violated state law by unauthorized use of former state Rep. Nathan Vaughn’s name on websites.

Larry Roberts, who has served as attorney for Kingsport Democrat Vaughn, said an agreement was reached for Gilmer to enter the plea in Kingsport General Sessions Court later this month. In effect, the plea means that Gilmer accepts the consequences for breaking the law - a $50 fine plus court costs - without actually admitting guilt.
