Now They Can Buy The Food For A Real Fundraiser

Posted on February 4, 2009 at 11:32 am

The big netroots effort spearheaded by Knoxville blogger R. Neal to raise funds for the new grassroots Tennessee Democratic Party headed by Chip Forrester has reached its goal. The benchmark was set at $1,000 by Friday. That point was reached in just a few hours this morning.

UPDATE: R. Neal:

Wow, Tennessee Democrats have stepped up to support the Tennessee Democratic Party, and progressive Tennessee bloggers met our three-business-day fundraing goal of $1000 in only FOUR HOURS AND 20 MINUTES!

Thanks to everyone who contributed. Because of the amazing response, we are doubling down and raising our goal to $2000 by the close of business Friday. We also want to get at least 50 individual grassroots/netroots contributors, so tell your friends and neighbors.

Thanks again to everyone!

We’ve got the food covered, now time for the beverage!

Remember, we have to pay Chip first. That’s $240,000 over the next two years. We’re almost half a percent of the way there.

Um, Chip’s salary can wait, I suspect he’s not worried about that…

Where did this $120,000 salary meme come from, and why is no one knocking it down? I don’t think the TNDP has a Treasurer, much less a budget, so how can Chip have a salary?

    Morpheus,

No one seemed to care when Sasser was drawing that salary, why the interest now?

Wow. $1,000? That’s enough to fund about two weeks of a Metro Council race. The Chipinistas are on fire! Step back.

Quacker: I feel certain Chip isn’t chairing the Party as a charity case. This guy needs a job. He’s been run out of every other political organization, from McWherter to Gore on down the line.

Fredo: The $120k figure is real, unless the TNDP Finance Council slashed it, as they’re expected to do as a result of lack of confidence in Chip’s fundraising prowess.

Which brings me to Vibinc: Nobody cared about that figure with Sasser because he could raise the money, and more. That’s the difference.

    Harrison,

It doesn’t matter if you can raise the money if you don’t win.

I’m usually not much for feeding the trolls, but if you’re such a big time know-it-all, then why don’t you come out and say who you really are?

    I have.

You guys are supposedly running the Tennessee Democrat Party now. Why don’t you tell Chipper not to take a salary? See how far that gets you. If Chipper skips his salary, then your money can go for the legal bills on the Kurita screwjob.

    Heatseeker,

Remember, that happened on Sasser’s watch. A proactive leader never would have let her on the primary ballot to begin with.

Vibinc, so now the Tennessee Democratic Party is joining the Tennessee Republican Party in the politics of exclusion? We’re all about loyalty oaths and litmus tests?

    Morpheus,

    1. I’m not the the chair of the TNDP, but in my opinion, someone who votes the opposition party into the majority would seem to have an agenda counter to that of their supposed party.

    2. The TNDP, as determined by the courts in this case, has the right to disqualify candidates for state primary elections. That’s not my rule, that’s what the court says. If the TNDP feels that one is not qualified to represent the TNDP, then it’s their duty to keep them off the ballot representing the TNDP. They can, of course, always run as an independent, or for another party.

    3. In the spirit of the first two points; the TNDP could have possibly saved itself some money and embarrassment by addressing this before the primary. Hindsight is 20/20

I’m not talking loyalty oaths, I’m talking consistency of guiding principles.

Actually, a “real” fundraiser will cost you at least $5,000. Keep trying.

someone who votes the opposition party into the majority

When Kurita voted for Ramsey, the Republicans already were in the majority, 17-16, due to having won more elections than the Democrats. Tennesseans voted them into the majority, not Kurita.

Okay. So according to this, Gray made about $87,500. The trolls are doing fine work: fact-free!
