A Blue Chip Special
Posted on February 4, 2009 at 8:01 amThe progressive blogosphere is apparently not content sit back and allow the Democratic bigwigs, money men and insiders to make snide comments about the new TNDP chairman’s ability to raise funds. They are going to actually do something to prove them wrong:
progressive bloggers across the state of Tennessee are this morning launching the “Chip in!” online fundraising blogathon to support the Tennessee Democratic Party during this critical rebuilding phase.
We have set up an ActBlue fundraising page where you can “chip in” a little or as much as you can to support this netroots effort and help the Tennessee Democratic Party hit the ground running for the critical 2010 elections for Governor and House of Representatives. Your secure online contribution goes directly to the Tennessee Democratic Party’s FEC regulated committee fund.
In his acceptance speech, TNDP chair Chip Forrester said “The Democratic Party has always stood for the average man and woman against the forces of power, privilege, and elitism. We have stood for fairness and safety in the marketplace and in the workplace, we have stood for individual rights and freedoms, we have stood for equal opportunities for all Americans, we have stood for equality and justice for all.”
The Obama campaign revealed a fundamental shift in American politics away from the “forces of power, privilege, and elitism” towards a more inclusive process, powered by an unprecedented grassroots movement of everyday people getting involved.
UPDATE: As of 8:40am nine donors had combined to give a total of $725

Look for: a. A temporary spike in small-dollar gifts that will be totally unsustainable, absent 500 bloggers signing up for $100 monthy bank drafts; and b. Whatever amount is raised, Chip will exaggerate it by a factor of 10. (”Oh really Chip? You raised $20k in small chunks this month? And you’re meeting Axelrod later for Chardonnay and a steam? Let the good times roll. Whoo hoo!”)
I’m particularly fond of this little comment:
TRANSLATION: The Democratic Party has always pitted the bourgeoisie against the proletariat, because they understand the importance of dividing the American people into groups and instilling a sense of jealousy in one group so they they hate the other.
TRANSLATION: The Democratic Party has always fought for greater regulations, both in the free market and in people’s ability to negotiate contracts with their employer.
TRANSLATION: Individual rights? No. Group rights at the expense of individual rights? Yes.
TRANSLATION: Affirmative Action, quotas, Lilly Ledbetter Act.
TRANSLATION: Leniency for violent criminals, clemency for suspected terrorists, and tax-evading for high-ranking nominees.
Yep. That sounds about right. (Have fun with that, Sean!)

Lilly Ledbetter? You’re against Equal Pay?! Well, I do believe that tells me all I need to know.
If we do this 239 more times, we’ll be able to pay Chip’s salary for the next two years.

The Lilly Ledbetter Act doesn’t ensure equal pay, it extends the statute of limitations nearly indefinitely for suits against employers in instances like this.
… Read legislation before you form an opinion on it. Don’t just listen to the rhetoric (from the Left or Right). It’ll take the calibur of these exchanges up a notch - maybe we’ll all get smarter from an educated contribution to this forum.

Oh. And another thing, jen: if that’s all you could find wrong with my translations (and you didn’t even fully understand that!), then this stands as a powerful indictment against the Democratic Party.

I’ve read it. What it does if give those who are discriminated against the opportunity to have their grievances redressed. Without it our already woefully inadequate anti-discrimination laws regarding employment and pay are utterly toothless.
Yeah, because comments like “Democratic Party has always fought for greater regulations” and “The Democratic Party has always pitted the bourgeoisie against the proletariat” are really bringing us into a new enlightened age…
So just to be clear, do you support equal pay for women for equal work? And if so, do you not then support allowing an extension of the statute of limitations for a female to file suit for an unfair pay claim when she was not aware of it? Is there some more “limited” extension you would favor than that which you interpret from the Ledbetter Act?
Matthew, I’m too busy raising money for the Party to respond to this carp.
crap, carp, whatever, it still stinks like rotting fish..
Unless companies want to start listing the salaries of all employees, its only fair to allow an employee who has been discriminated against, to have more than 180 days from the last paycheck to uncover the discrimination.
Left Hand Wanker,
What? You digging pennies out of the ashtray of your mid-90s Honda Civic? Better dig faster. At this pace, you Democrats will catch Bill Haslam in about 7 years.
If he stops fundraising today and Chipper stops taking that fat salary.
