The J-Train To Comptroller Town

Posted on January 30, 2009 at 11:17 pm

Theo Emery reports on the monies Justin Wilson transferred to GOP lawmakers in the leadup to his election as state Comptroller:

And one contribution appears to signal that Wilson’s election was a foregone conclusion. While most of his fourth-quarter donations list Wilson’s occupation as attorney, a $500 gift he made on Jan. 12 to an incoming GOP lawmaker records his occupation as state comptroller, even though the election was days away.

Where is the Democratic Party on all of this. In fact, where is the Tennessee Democratic Party on everything. I’ve heard one thing from them since the last election. That was their chairman calling Tennesseans racists. Okay, I agree, but why are you not involved in the real politics? Like pointing out the Republican corruption on matters like this.

The article fails to note that the other comptroller candidate, John Morgan, campaigned for and raised money for Democrats all over the state.

I’m so sick of politicians. Looks like the Republicans in the General Assembly are as corrupt as the Democrats. It sickens me to hear the spin doctors say these are men of integrity. They can’t be bought by campaign contributions. Yeah, right. And my dogs can’t be bought by a couple of biscuits.

No, Morgan never wrote a check while he was Comptroller, neither has Wilson. Morgan campaigned as Comptroller. Wilson has not. The report in question was just filed, probably last week. Wilson was Comptroller when the report was filed, but not when the contribution was made.

Whatever, Earl. Wilson and Sundquist funneled plenty of money to the Rep’s, and shady as usual. And, he will campaign for the Rep’s, you’ll see. Don’t any of you try to muddy the good name of the former comptroller. He is the epitome of a good public servant.

To suggest that Justin Wilson never campaigned for the job of comptroller is laughable.

Well Tom, I didn’t imply that. I said he WILL campaign for them. It’s what comptrollers do. They lend their name, same as others do. Have you ever seen a fundraiser invitation?? And the harm in that issss? I was just pointing out the fact to good ole Earl. Morgan campaigned AS comptroller, not for comptroller. Wilson didn’t either, but he will lend his name to invitations to fundraisers and he will attend the fundraisers. Got it?

Morgan helped with Dem fundraisers. He didn’t have to write a check. And he campaigned for Dems. Nothing wrong with that, but nothing wrong with Wilson donating to Republicans either.
