Is Speaker Kent Williams Still A Republican?

TNGOP communications director Bill Hobbs gives the report on the process:

The Tennessee Republican Party State Executive Committee met by telephone today as a follow-up to the first meeting reviewing the numerous challenges to the bona fide status of Kent Williams as a Republican. Resolution of this matter is forthcoming with no specific action resulting today.

Under party bylaws, the final authority to make a decision on Mr. Williams’ status rests with the party Chairman, who is consulting with the State Executive Committee to ensure that the final decision is the best action for the Tennessee Republican Party and for Tennessee.

“The State Executive Committee has resoundingly stated that the principles on which this Party is founded require honor and integrity,” said Robin Smith, Chairman of the Tennessee Republican Party.

    I’d like to think the Republicans aren’t stupid enough to boot Williams, but then I also play the lottery so what do I know? On the other hand, the way the Executive Committee is dragging this out gives me hope.

    Censure him or condemn him but for God’s sake, don’t de-Republicanise him. He’ll be a Democrat ten seconds after the announcement and Republicans will be screwed for another ten years. Remember: redistricting!
