Rep. Kent Williams Is Speaker Of The House

Posted on January 13, 2009 at 1:36 pm

Jimmy Naifeh declares the 50-49 vote official and calls for the swearing in of Rep. Kent Williams as Speaker of the House.

The assembled crowd in the legislature’s gallery were there to see the historic elevation of an elected Republican to the office of Speaker of the House.

And that’s exactly what they got.

I bet somebody’s pissed at Terri Lynn Weaver right now. And maybe Speaker Williams, too. Better make sure Mumpower stays away from any open windows or balconies.

I think it’s funny given all the GOP’s crowing after last year’s election. As they were woefully reminded today, their 50-49 edge in the House is no mandate, just a slim lead that can easily evaporate on any given vote. Like it or not, they’ll have to work with Democrats sometimes to get things done. Let’s hope both sides understand they can’t go it alone.

I had a premonition in that Waffle House.

I THINK THIS IS PERFECT. AFTER MUMPOWER AND PHILLIP JOHNSON DID WHAT THEY DID IN CHEATHAM COUNTY DURING THE ELECTION. WHAT COMES AROUND GOES AROUND, NOW IF WE CAN GET TIM BARNES OUT TAHT WOULD BE GREAT. DIRTY POLITICS ARE NOT GOOD. THAT IS WHY GOOD PEOPLE DO NOT RUN FOR PUBLIC OFFICE’S YOU CAN NOT BE HONEST AND FAIR VERY LONG YOU WILL GET DIRTY SOONER OR LATER. I AM GLAD I AM GETTING OUT OF THIS RAT RACE SOON.

Donna, explain exactly how elected representatives voting for the choice they feel is best is “like a banana republic.” Seriously, if you’re going to throw that kind of rhetoric out there, justify it, or it’s just hyperbole.

For all of us who live in the Northeast, what transpired in Cheatman County by Rep. Jason Mumpower and Philip Johnson? Not reported in the news media at this end of the state…
