Nervousness About Williams

Posted on January 13, 2009 at 12:08 pm

David Oatney reports that some Republicans are concerned that Rep. Kent Williams may vote for Speaker Jimmy Naifeh:

There is still some concern that Kent Williams may vote for Naifeh, largely because of the threat to remove him from the party if he votes Democratic for any Constitutional office. The theory goes that if he wants to vote for Sims or Morgan, why should he then not vote for Jimmy Naifeh, since either way he’s out. Many members of the Caucus were at the celebration dinner last night at the City Club-Kent Williams was noticably absent from a very Republican gathering.

Jason Mumpower still says he’s “on top” of the Williams situation, and Williams was notably cheery when I saw him in the hall today. The GOP Caucus meets as we wait.

There should be a reason for him not to vote for Naifeh. If he cares at all about the views he claims to hold he will not vote for Naifeh. If he wants to get reelected he will not vote for Naifeh.
