Silver Linings For Saltsman

Posted on December 29, 2008 at 8:02 am

Despite a recent PR disaster, Chip Saltsman’s run for RNC chair could get new life at a special meeting of the RNC called in advance of the vote for chair at the end of January:

Several RNC watchers who did not sign on to the meeting but who support it nonetheless say the meeting is a victory for those running to unseat incumbent chairman Mike Duncan. The meeting will give the other five prominent candidates an opportunity to campaign amongst the 168 voting national committee members in advance of the election, which takes place during the last weekend in January.

A candidate forum is the sole agenda item aside from procedural matters to call the meeting to order.

When voting begins, Duncan is expected to start the first round of voting with the highest total, though the incumbent is not expected to reach the 85 votes necessary to win outright.

I reckon the phrase “Go, Chippy, go!” now has a new meanin’ for the RNC.

By the way, here are three key facts worth thinkin’ about:

    (1) Chip Saltsman carefully had a custom Christmas CD presentation case made for each of the 168 RNC members, with Chippy’s grinning face and a snowman next to four of the most offensive song titles.

I couldn’t believe it until I saw it at seconds 41 through 44 of a Little Rock, Arkansas TV news piece at

    http://arkansasmatters.com/content/fulltext/?cid=169951

(You can also watch Huckabee side-stepping incoming questions about Chippy’s Christmas CD mess.)

This fancy-yet-offensive Christmas CD took a whole lot of plannin’ by Chippy, who keeps in touch with Frist, Huckabee, Mumpower, and Ramsey.

    (2) A few days before Christmas, while he was havin’ his custom CD case made, Chip Saltsman put out a detailed 3,644-word “Plan for Republican Victory” on his RNC campaign website at http://www.chipsaltsman.com

It describes his “plan to execute a campaign for Republicans to recapture leadership on the American political scene.”

Chippy’s Plan includes eleven LONG paragraphs about how the RNC might reach out to Latino and young voters – but NOT ONE WORD anywhere about black voters or reachin’ out to them. Very tellin’.

    (3) Just who are the MAIN political heavyweights backing Chip Saltsman?

Dr. Bill Frist, Mike Huckabee, and Jason Mumpower, who posted ringin’ endorsements for Chippy and his “Plan for Republican Victory” on Chip’s website at http://www.chipsaltsman.com (plus Ron Ramsey, who spoke out loudly for Chipster at his event to announce his run for the RNC national chairmanship).

And what have these Three Wise Men (plus Ramsey) said about Chippy’s CD mess, or the fact that Chip posted a tactical PLAN to lead the RNC which blatantly omits any mention of the concerns or even the existence of black voters? So far, NOTHIN’.

Three Wise Guys (plus Ramsey) indeed. More like birds of a feather. Their silent support of Chip Saltsman during his Christmas CD send-and-defend mess, plus their published praise for Chippy’s “thoughtful tactician” skills and his Plan which completely ignores black voters, reflect not only on Chip Saltsman but also on them.

If a man is known by the company he keeps, it looks like Chip Saltsman is helpin’ folks get a better knowin’ of Frist, Huckabee, Mumpower, and Ramsey.

A number of Republicans and independents who support Mumpower and Ramsey have NO use for Frist and Huckabee, so don’t try to lump them all together. We know the differences.
