Hispanic Bloggers Not Happy About Richardson Appointment At Commerce

At least not all of them:

“Secretary Of Commerce = Where We Stick Latinos To Say We’re Diverse,” wrote Adventures of the Coconut Caucus blog, as they noted Richardson will succeed Cuban-born Carlos Miguel Gutierrez, President Bush’s nominee in 2004.

Most critics argued that Clinton got the State job over Richardson, who has more demonstrable international experience. Los Blogueros and Latino Politics Blog expressed their disappointment in late November when the Clinton news first surfaced. “Remember how many in the Latino community were hoping that Bill Richardson would get the top diplomat spot,” Latino Politics Blog wrote.

A reporter asked Obama about the perceived slight among the Hispanic community today at a press conference in Chicago with Richardson. “Commerce secretary is a pretty good job,” Obama quipped, defending the importance of the Commerce post for his economic agenda.
