Seen All He Needs

David Oatney doesn’t need to see any not-so-incriminating emails from Rep. Steve McDaniel to make a decision about whether the man should be Speaker Pro Tem:

I do not believe much more incrimination is needed other than that Steve McDaniel voted for the income tax and for Jimmy Naifeh for Speaker of the House. We might like to find even more juicy tidbits that prove McDaniel’s lack of conservatism or party loyalty to a greater degree because, as many are quick to point out, we need these Republican short-shrifters who voted for Naifeh to vote with us for House Speaker. I have no problem thowing these folks some nice meaty bones, but leadership posts should go to conservatives and to loyal Republicans who have worked for this day. Standing with the GOP through thick and thin needs to be rewarded when the political situation is truly at its thickest point for Tennessee Republicans.

Steve McDaniel is an honorable man and a Republican who has always done what he perceived to be in the best interests of the citizens of Tennessee.
As a Republican leader, he tried as best he could under the circumstances to support a Republican Governor hell-bent on “illegally imposing a state income tax” for which the illegality rests solely upon extremely dubious case law as former Deputy Governor Justin Wilson has pointed out on numerous occasions.
Why must the Shiite faction of the Tennessee Ayatollah Republican Party try to drive reasonable people from their fold at every turn?
And why do they trample on the rights of elected members to do the bidding of those who elect them from their own unique districts and not to do the bidding of extremists, left or right, from other districts?
Once there was a Big Tent into which everyone was invited. But President Ronald Reagan has passed on.
Why is the hard right fanatical fringe insistent on burning down the Big Tent that Ronald Reagan built?
Do not burn down Reagan’s tent. Build a bigger tent.
Perhaps someone should make the motion for the vote for Speaker pro Tem to go first before Speaker.
If the Shiites don’t let McDaniel have Speaker pro Tem, then perhaps one brave soul could vote “Naifeh.”

Are you the same Jesse Hughes that tried to link Mike Faulk to Sundquist and pro-income tax repubs in an effort to attack him in the primary?
Are you now trying to call David Oatney and other conservatives “radicals” because they are questioning a man who voted for the income tax?

First you support Mike Williams, a man who voted for Wilder, and now you are suggesting that a “brave soul” should vote for Naifeh just because he doesn’t get the leadership position he wants.

You have a distorted view of Republicanism my friend, and using Reagan as an example doesn’t help your cause. You don’t build a big tent by joining the other side’s tent. You stick to your principles and convince more people why they should be in your tent. Reagan didn’t flee to moderation; he stuck to conservative principles and communicated to people why those were better. Moderation at the national level has failed miserably i.e. John McCain. In 1994 Newt didn’t run to the middle, him and other Republicans ran as conservatives and won because people new what they stood for. If you stand for nothing you will fall for anything. The party has fallen and will continue to fall if we do not learn our lesson. The people of Tennessee voted for conservative ideals, and conservatives should have a chance to lead just like any others should. There is nothing “hard right” about being a conservative.

I have nothing bad to say about Steve McDaniel, I don’t know the man enough to speak on him, but for you to say that those who might support Frank Nicely are Shiites is uncalled for and definitely not something that Reagan would have done.

“Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice, and moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.”
