That’s One Of Those Rhetorical Questions

Posted on November 20, 2008 at 3:44 pm

Mary Mancini on the tiff between Governor Phil Bredesen and state House Democratic Leader Gary Odom:

Has the Governor’s relationship with the Democratic caucus deteriorated so badly that he has to communicate his leadership preference through the press? Or is his intended purpose to embarrass Rep. Odom?

Odom needs to go. He presided over the biggest defeat in the history of the Tennessee Democratic Party. He’s incompetent and he spent all of his time bickering with Bredesen and attempting to undercut Naifeh. Put this guy to the curb.

Could it be true that Gary Odom cannot be trusted? Let’s ask former Sue Odom, what would she say? How about let’s ask the former mistress Representative Sherrie Jones. Ok those are marital issues. So let’s look at Charlotte Park Neighborhood and Sylvan Park Neighborhood, did he not promise to oppose the Bells Bend project and yet he still took money from the developers? Makes one wonder where Mr. Odom’s loyalties are this week. He created havoc last year as Majority Leader on the house floor, by openly arguing with other representatives in an unprofessional manner. He enabled one Rep. that made national news for Intoxication and asking for police assistance suicide. How about his involvement with the Tennessee optometrist association and how much they pay him. According to Odom this is not a conflict of interest but when you are in charge of the ethic committee you make the rules, right! Wow maybe Governor Bredesen is on to something, Odom cannot be trusted. Here is a thought, Odom pick a job Representative or Lobbyist. Regardless do Tennessee a favor and just say no to minority leader.

Actually it was Naifeh who presided over the biggest defeat in the history of the Tennessee Democratic Party. And it was Naifeh who cut the deal to put Odom in his leadership position in the first place.

Actually it was Odom who went into the democratic caucus and promised $100,000 of taxpayers money for every rep and their pet projects, if they voted for him as majority leader. If some democrates would get the guts to come forward and tell the truth about how this deal was brokered from behind close doors then maybe they can start getting respect and mend the fence with the republican majority.

Don’t get me wrong Naifeh had his part in the Democrates defeat this past election, but odom was to keep his house inorder and failed to do so. Odom needs to go. Many others had a hand in the defeat but start at the top. Naifeh will no longer be in control of anything and now we need to make sure Odom has the same punishment.

Got news for you, Richard. As minority leader, neither Odom nor Fitzhugh will “have control of anything” at all. It seems these guys put the Democratic Party in ruins, and now these two are fighting to be caretakers of the ruins.

Instead of this in-fighting, with a minority status of just one seat, Naifeh and Odom and Fitzhugh and Bredesen out to get some brains, cut out this cannibalism, and focus on getting their act together and planning a strategy for the future. We need more leadership and less pettiness among Democrats. Hopefully, these bozos will see this as an opportunity for self-reform rather than a chance to finger-point and dig a deeper hole for themselves. But I am seeing no evidence of that right now. Jason Mumpower must be having a good belly laugh as he plans the New Dark Age for Tennessee and the Democrats concentrate on sniping at each other.

If that jackass Jim Kyle had focused on the future instead of revenge for the past, we might be looking at at Lt. Gov. Haynes rather than two more years or more of Ramsey.

We need some leadership. It needs to come from Bredesen. Like it or not, he is all that stands between any form of rational government in Tennessee and the complete victory of the paranoid wing-nuts who live in the alternative universe of conservative talk radio.

If Odom worried about more than banging his 24 year out intern (in his defense he married her after leaving his wife a year later) then maybe we wouldn’t have Speaker Mumpower. That guy is a slime and needs to go!
