Mucking Up Mumpower’s Maneuver

Posted on November 20, 2008 at 4:23 pm

Though it has been widely rumored that the Speaker Pro Tempore position was the price for Rep. Steve McDaniel’s vote for a GOP speaker, conservative firebrand Rep. Frank Nicely has decided to challenge McDaniel anyway:

Nicely will face State Representative Steve McDaniel in the upcoming leadership elections. Nicely is garnering the support of many Republicans who are worried about the message grassroots Republicans, independents, and some anti-income-tax Tennesseans will receive if the pro-income tax McDaniel is elected to the 2nd most powerful position in the State House.

Tennessee would be better served if the people of Tennessee could vote for these positions like most every other state does. Instead of there being only two candidates for Governor running, you’d have an electrified election with several other high profile candidates running for top offices and unified tickets spread across the state raising three times as much money, reaching three times as many voters and educating the state on the role of government.

Letting the legislature chose who these officers are is the laziest, unaccountable form of state government you can get… that especially includes when it was Democrats doing it. It’s too bad state Democrats were so comfortable with their century and a half rule that they failed to lead on transforming state government in this manner.

Frank Nicely is an idiot and everyone knows it - everyone except sychophantic idiots like Oatney.

Anyone who uses anonymous names like “B-Ho” is a douche” in an intellectually void coward and and everyone knows it, it is on display at Kleinheider’s weblog for the entire world to see.

Statements such as “Frank Niceley is an idiot” are usually made either by Democrats, Naifehists, or people who do not actually know Frank Niceley.

Niceley has more respect among Dems than most conservatives on the Hill-and it shows. Ask Dennis Ferguson or George Fraley who they’d really trust on the other side…

As a Tennessee Democrat, I am sad about our losses in the legislature, clearly. But posting bad things about Frank Nicely is just juvenile. I dont know Rep. Nicely. I do follow Oatney’s World pretty closely, and though I disagree on many political issues with Dave Oatney, I am always impressed with his intellect and his ability to brings clarity to both theological and political issues. If he is vouching for Rep. Nicely, its good enough for me.

Bottom line: Winston Churchill once said “Be nice to the outs…one day they’ll be the ins.” It sounds like Democrats weren’t very nice to the outs. And now its sweet revenge time. But it also sounds like guys like Rep. Nicely will be the sort of leader that will not be unreasonable. Either way sophmoric and profane posts under anonymous names about Bill Hobbs accomplish nothing, and look petty and small.

    Better?

    No, not at all better.

What happens if Nicely beats McDaniel and McDaniel then votes for himself or another republican for speaker, returning it to the gentleman from Covington?

But will House Suite #1 (what I understand to be space occupied by the Tennessee Spekaer of the House, currently Jimmy Naifeh) be large enogh to accomodate Rep. Jason Mumpower’s 17,000+ comic books…?

Ron Ramsey spent over $18,000 remodeling the TNGA Lt. Governor office space…how much time, money, and office space will be House Republicans be willing to allocate for Mumpower and his comic books???
