Rep. Cohen A Lightning Rod For Armenian Activists

Armenian National Committee members are featured in the nine-minute video sent to reporters Monday to make the point that some in Congress do not favor a resolution calling the 1915 killing of thousands of ethnic Armenians by Turkish troops a “genocide.”

Doing so would strain relations with Turkey, which is an important ally in the war in Iraq, Cohen and others have argued. Cohen does not deny the historical facts, but asked then-commanding general David H. Petraeus about the resolution during a fact-finding trip to Iraq in October 2007 and was told it would endanger the troops supplied through Turkey.
