Skinheads, Sarah Palin and Bill Hobbs

Posted on October 27, 2008 at 5:38 pm

From the Tennessee Republican Party:

The Tennessee Republican Party expresses its shock and outrage today at the alleged plot by two neo-Nazi skinheads in Tennessee to go on a shooting spree targeting African-American high school students before attempting to kill presidential candidate Barack Obama.

“Hate is not a political party, policy statement, agenda or ideology - it is a pure evil that no place in civil society,” said Robin Smith, Chairman of the Tennessee Republican Party. “Whether it is neo-Nazi skinheads plotting a racist shooting spree targeting Sen. Obama, or West Hollywood liberals hanging Gov. Sarah Palin in effigy and calling it ‘art,’ or unknown anarchists tossing bricks through the windows of a county Republican headquarters in Murfreesboro, Americans of all political views should be outraged.

“The American system provides for Americans to express their political passions on the campaign trail and at the ballot box, Violence, intimidation and threats poison the political process.”

UPDATE: Ben Smith thinks the TNGOP is stretching.

Notice that Smith still tried to take political shots at the Democrats here with the other two examples she gave. The fact that neither come up to the level of actually plotting to kill a GOP candidate seems to have escaped her too. She should have just renounced the skinheads and said nothing else.

Glad to see Ben Smith agrees with me.

My immediate reaction was the same as yours, Bobby. It is a petty move, at best.

I can see NOW why most Blacks vote the other party. This person from the Tn Republican Party can equate a broken window, and burning of an efigy to a mass murder plot and a plot to assasinate a presidential candidate in one paragraph is beyond belief.

Exactly the same, planning a racially motivated murder spree vs breaking a window. Lovely, I see where the kids get their values. I think anyone who destroys property should be arrested. They should also be ashamed if it was for petty political reasons. The skinheads, they are ignorant and twisted and will be punished under our laws. Now, a two bit political hack that trys to use such an awful situation for political gain. Well that person is truely hateful, and is the worst kind of person. Much worse then the poor, shallow, ignorant clown who breaks a window or threatens to kill. This person knows better, but is subtle in spreading their hate. The Most Dangerous Kind.

Ok, why don’t you go back and read the sentence again. I think they were relating the “plot” to kill Obama to the radical people that had Sarah Palin hanging from their tree! Oh let’s just look right over that part and go straight to bricks. Funny, I haven’t heard a single comment about that one. I can only imagine the outrage if that was Obama hanging from a tree. I believe that would be considered a hate crime, but it’s perfectly acceptable to hang Gov. Palin and call it art. God please help this country because my take right now is it’s going to hell in a handbasket.

Oh and Al - Our children are learning their values from ignorant people like you that condem ignorance in one person, but condon similar actions in another. Wrong is wrong period and it shouldn’t be accepted just because one is against your candidate and one isn’t.

How pathetic that they try to equate an plan to go on a racial killing spree with someone’s very bad taste attempt to be funny by setting up Halloween decorations using Palin. It’s in terrible taste, but it’s a Halloween display for goodness sake. See, http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2008/10/27/sedens.ca.palin.noose.kcal .

Is the Republican party really this absurdly locked in its partisan myopia? Just say that the killing spree plan was shocking and leave it at that. Don’t try to use it as a chance to score points against the other party or to posture.

This is why most of us are turned off by the people who are regularly involved in politics. Go buy yourself a soul.

    Uhh.. rep… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCJN6TjM7mg

Of course Keith Olbermann’s a well known right winger so I guess he doesn’t count.

But yes it *would* be different if it were Obama hanging from the tree, and no amount of feigned ignorance as to *why* it is different will make it not different.
