Posted on October 23, 2008 at 4:40 pm

Bill Hobbs, Communications Director for the Tennessee Republican Party, refutes the charge that 49th District state House candidate Rick Womick does not reside in the district where he seeks office:

2/20/08 - He went to file with the Rutherford County Election Commission and was told he had to have an address in the 49th District to run. They refused to give him papers to file. The EC employee talked to was Anita White.

2/29/08 - He rented an apartment at The Point apartments at 2315 N Tennessee Blvd in Murfreesboro in the 49th District.

5/29/08 - He found a foreclosed house for sale in the 49th District and made an offer.

6/17/08 - The Womick’s offer on the home was accepted. He gave the an earnest money check and it was deposited.

6/18/08 - Rick asked the Election Commission (Anita White) when he could transfer his voter registration to the home he was buying. She told him he could go ahead and transfer his registration to the address he was going to live at before he closed on the home. He, and his Wife Jan transferred voter registration to new address at 903 Sulphur Springs Road, Murfreesboro, TN 37129.

6/30/08 - Womicks took over water bill and electrical bill payments prior to closing to start repairs to home.

7/1/08 - Changed voter registration address for Son, Joshua to new home at 903 Sulphur Springs Rd.

7/16/08 - Closed on home at 903 Sulphur Springs house.

7/16/08 - Moved into house on Sulphur Springs Rd.

7/16/08 - Rick, Jan and 19 year old Son Joshua started rotating times staying with three younger children at their Salem Highway Farm in Rutherford County (34th District). The Womicks lived here since 1997. The did not want to disrupt the children’s school and lives by moving them as well.

8/7/08 - All three of the Womicks (Rick, Jan & Joshua) vote in Republican Primary in 49th District.

8/20/08 - Electric water heater ruptures while Rick is on a trip to London. Massive damage to floor and cabinets in kitchen. Electrical box in basement also damaged from water.

8/23/08 - Discovered foundation crack in basement/foundation.

8/23/08 - Began remodeling/damage repair of house and started staying more at farm as the campaign intensified and remodeling of the kitchen and bathroom began.

10/17/08 - Kent Coleman has forum with Rick Womick on WGNS Radio. After Rick brings up Kent not doing enough to prevent illegal immigrants from getting benefits and note requiring a photo ID to vote, Kent Coleman said:

“Sometimes we might have candidates that which live in one location and live in another location. I do not view that any differently than and illegal alien trying to vote in a local election . I think we need to concentrate right here at home. Voter fraud is voter fraud. If candidates choose to run for offices don’t live in the district that’s fine. But if they cast a vote in a primary in a district in which they don’t live, that could be a problem. I think we need to look into those issues.”

“Let me re-inuate. It is no different to have an illegal alien voting in an election than it is to have a US citizen that votes in a primary that lives in one location and claims to lives in another. That is wrong. Voters need to look into those issues.”

10/20/08 - Work continues on home as the Womicks continue to rotate between homes making sure that they spend the majority of their time in the 903 Sulphur Springs Rd home. This is a two bedroom home and the refrigerator and microwave are in dining room as the kitchen is gutted. The living room, bedrooms are fully furnished. Rick travels 15-17 days a month flying overseas for American Airlines. They did not want to buy a larger home and sell their farm until after the election.

Sounds like Johnnie Cochran bracing for a vigorous prosecution. I can hear it now: If the house doesn’t fit, you must acquit. Good luck in court, Repubs.

Is there no act low enough that Bill Hobbs will condemn it if committed by a Republican? We all know that if Womick were a Democrat, Hobbs and the TNGOP would be raising holy hell.

Bottom line, this guy doesn’t live in the district, the Republicans recruited him to run in a district in which he doesn’t live, and he shopped around to find a cheap house in the district to claim he lived in.

    Stinks to the high heavens.

I do believe that Mr. Hobbs doth protest too much.

Uhhhh, nice try Hobbs. Dude is busted. Finished. If this were a Democrat, Hobbs would be leading the charge. Just take it on the chin, Bill. Take it on the chin.

Well, you know, with most of our state Democrats, the folks in the districts would be just as well off with an illegal alien representing them than with the Democrats pretending to. Either way, foreign nationals are going to get preference over the citizens in the district.
