Wait? So Kurita’s Ramsey Vote Did Factor In?

Posted on October 7, 2008 at 6:54 am

Gray Sasser simply will not quit striking back at Rosalind Kurita for showing the temerity to challenge the political maneuverings by Tennessee Democrats which overturned a certified election:

“In fact, the only backroom deal in this long, sordid saga was cut long before the Aug. 7 primary, when Sen. Kurita went back on her word to her Democratic colleagues and supported Republican Ron Ramsey for Senate speaker and lieutenant governor,” Sasser said. “Unfortunately, this process has become marked by accusations and, frankly, falsehoods. Sen. Kurita had the opportunity to present her case at an open meeting of the state executive committee, and according to rules that both sides agreed to before the proceedings.”

Honestly, I can’t believe how ridiculous Kurita’s behavior has been. People lose elections all the time; in fact, I’d say it’s pretty safe to guess that about half of all candidates lose. What do they do then? Sometimes, they retire; politicians out of office can usually make pretty good money on boards of companies or with book deals or whatever. Other times, they take some time off, go to Hawaii, regroup, and run again when they can.

Why doesn’t Kurita do that? Stop making everybody in her district angry, start getting her name out in a positive manner, and take on Tim Barnes in 2012.

Instead, she is desperately grasping at straws, trying to drag everybody else down in flames with her (to phrase the situation in as many mixed metaphors as possible). Is it surprising that that the Executive Committee had some hard feelings? They watched a Democrat throw another Democrat out of his long-held position, ostensibly in hopes of getting some reward from those whom she helped. The Executive Committee made their decision after going through the required process, and that’s that.
