Queer As Folk

Mark Mays thinks Sarah Palin’s girl-next-door performance was a put on:

Other journos are using the word “folksy” to describe Palin’s performance, which is of course an insult to the genuinely folksy people one might find in various regions of the US. As much as she said “ya” and “darn right” I’d expected her to add “golly gee whiz” and “where’s the beef?” and “I’m not gonna pay a lot for this muffler.”

I agree. It’s such a phony act. Anyone can see through it. I mean my god, winking at the camera? Is she serious? You pull that stuff when you’re going for Rachel Ray’s gig, not Dick Cheney’s.

As I blogged over at my place today, the SNL writers really hit the nail on the head when they had Amy Poehler as Katie Couric ask: “Forgive me, Mrs. Palin, but it seems to me when cornered you become increasingly adorable. Is that fair to say?”

    Yup. That’s it exactly.
