And I suppose people really believe this will change if he’s elected.

    IF,

Well, many of the programs and plans he’ll target towards Appalachia to win over support in VA, WV, and NC will most likely benefit East Tennessee.

Regardless, if people want Presidential candidates to spend more time in the state, we need to abolish the Electoral College.

Who cares that he’s not spending much time here? We get to host the debate. Get over it, ACK. We’re not a battleground state so why should either candidate spend much time here?

Exactly. It would be a waste of precious campaign time.

And anyway, BOTH candidates are spending the night here.

I’ve heard of two fundraising events here, with some big names, and I would be shocked if Obama didn’t make an appearance at one of them. But if he doesn’t, I won’t pout. He needs to be working battleground states.

So what I’m hearing is it’s ok with you guys that you have been overlooked. And Sean, I completely agree. Popular vote should be the way for ALL elections, not just the ones that you choose.

Good grief, you win campaigns by making strategic decisions about where resources can best be utilized. Why spend time in a state where your opponent leads by 12, when you can further shore up a state where you have a newly acquired 4 point lead. Obama may be many things (insert GOP curse word or smear here), but he has run a disciplined campaign that with few exceptions has utilized his resources where they can make the most impact. If Obama wins TN, a huge if at this point, it will be because we are the 39th state to push him to a blowout, not because we are a swing state that he “blessed” with his scarce time during the most pivotal days of the campaign.
