Former Mother-In-Law Doesn’t Want Grandkids Used As Campaign Props
Posted on October 1, 2008 at 5:31 pmDemocratic state Senate candidate Randy Camp is once again at the center of some in-law drama.
It appears that Camp’s former brother-in-law, who has been sending letters to citizens of the 26th District documenting his disgust over the treatment of his sister during her 20-plus year marriage to Mr. Camp, is not alone among members of his family in having a fondness for committing his thoughts to paper.
Post Politics has learned that Nancy Roland, the mother of Camp’s former wife Lisa, has also written a letter. In the missive, which was sent to an estimated “hundreds” around the district, Roland echoes her son’s accounts of the mistreatment of her daughter as well as Camp’s many admitted adulteries.
But she also adds a new charge.
In the letter, Ms. Roland asserts that she asked Mr. Camp to refrain from using his daughters and grandchild, her granddaughters and great grandson, in political ads.
“Because of all Lisa had been through, I wrote and begged him not to use the children and our great grandson in his politics. He has ignored my request,” Roland states in the letter.
The daughters, Catherine and Leigh Camp, however, have been on the campaign trail and were featured in at least one political advertisement along with pictures of Catherine’s young son, Brayden.
Camp’s ex-wife, Lisa, confirmed that she was aware of the letter and while she did not solicit or instigate it’s writing, she does vouch for it’s content.
On the subject of Catherine and Leigh’s campaign activities, Lisa Roland tells Post Politics that while she has never asked her daughters explicitly to refrain from the practice (and never would), she has expressed her feelings on the matter.
“They know I’m not fond of it,” explains Ms. Camp. “But, he’s their Dad. I want to them to have a relationship with him. I would never stand in the way of that.”
Nancy Roland also confirmed that she did author the letter because of “everything my daughter has been through.”
When asked whether she had been helped with the letter or its distribution by Republican operatives or political opponents of Camp, Roland responded, “Oh no, I am not really a political person. I’m a political independent. I vote for the best person for the job.”
Roland added that Mr. Camp has, to date, neither answered nor acknowledged her letter imploring him not to use her grandchildren in his political campaign.
Requests for comment to Randy Camp were referred to Senate Democratic Caucus Political Director Mark Brown who issued the following statement.
“Randy’s grown daughters love their father and support his campaign because they understand the importance of this election to their futures and the future of District 26. They agree with their father about the importance of bringing good-paying jobs to the district and improving access to health care. Obviously, Gresham and her surrogates desperately want to change the subject from the fact that Gresham’s top legislative accomplishment has been to raise her own pay.”

Granny needs to butt out. His daughters don’t look like they are too young to decide for themselves whether they want to be in a political ad, a great-grandmother doesn’t decide what is in the best interests of their grand-daughter’s kids.
This is petty family squabbling that really doesn’t have a place in the campaign.
A man who doesn’t honor his marriage vows given to his wife before God can’t be trusted in Nashville.
I think it’s very acceptable for a mother and grandmother to threaten their daughters/granddaughters who want to spend time with their dad. The Roland family after has raised a wife beater an alcoholic and deadbeat dad and wife abuser. These are the facts. I know I’m married into the family. Even I had a little trouble with adultery in Crockett County, a couple of times. But that was long ago when I was just a state rep.
We just don’t Randy Camp elected and will stop at nothing to prevent him. We’ll even endorse a woman who, after finding out that keeping 3 foster kids was too much trouble, just dropped them off without telling anyone first.
Our values, our morality, our vicious nature has ruled and intimidated West Tennesseans for years. We’re not about to see that change. Viva, Dolores Noguera Gresham
The Rolands are hypocrits! Everything JW (not the real one I’m sure since he is funding this attack) is true. How can Mr. Roland judge another after what he has done. No telling what he is doing now, I feel sorry for his cureent wife-if he still has one, she has no idea what this lier is really up to. (oh yea, I was friends with ONE of the women Mr.Roland beat, he abused two women, but that was years ago, right. He also committed adultary, but that was years ago right) They are nothing but a bunch of finger pointers, that’s all.
Does Mrs. Nancy Roland’s own son know “what principals are important to families” very doubtful. His daughters are grown, if they support him, it’s because they choose to.
All of this family drama is starting to get on everyone’s nerves. Randy Camp did what he did, admitted and it’s over. His kids obviously love, support him and forgive him. Isn’t that the true Christian way (Roland family) and for all it’s worth, on all the sights I have read I have yet to read anything posted about what a fine, honest and family oriented man Mr. Roland is. I wonder why? This has been a conspiracy against Mr. Camp,no way do we condon what he did, but this family has a habit of doing to this others and actually, it’s illegal for one or more persons to get together and continuely defame another, for petes sake they don’t even live in the voting district.
Randy is a great man. He has paid for what happened. He pays every week to a person who never helped out anyway. All she wants is his money. Now she wants to hurt Tennessee. Shame on her. He’s very Honest and caring. If his ex would get her nose out of the air, maybe she could keep a man. She found a way to get her money. Go Randy Go !!!
I know everything is over and done with this terrible mud slingimg, name calling, election. I would just like to know, does the “Roland family, and the other contributors “wink, wink”,only pick and choose which parts of the Bible this so called Christan, moral family reads? Alcoholism is okay, wife beating is okay-There is a whole lot in the family’s closet. Let me leave you with this: (shortened) Matthew 7—Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgement ye judge, ye shall be judged, and with what measures ye mete, it shall be measured to you again(when you stand before God)…….Luke 6:37—Do not judge, and you will not be judged, and do not condemn and you will not be condemned, pardon and you will be pardoned… Luke 6:41
Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?
