Bad Tactics

Ilissa Gold doesn’t understand why the Tennessee Democratic Party is bothering to attack a candidate whose name isn’t even on the ballot:

The primary has been overturned, fairly or not. Now her only hope of winning is to win as a write-in candidate. Do you think that everyone who votes in her district will remember on November 4 a) that they can write her name in and b) how to spell her name correctly if they do? I’d be willing to bet even a majority of Republicans up in Clarksville won’t remember that. This election is in the bag now, the TNDP now just has to hope that they take back the Senate so that Tim Barnes can actually be seated.

What was the point of throwing more fuel on this fire? To me, this just looks completely gratuitous. Cheap shots might make you feel all tough, but are generally not a good way to win an election

    I think that you have underestimated the Republican voters in District 22 my friend…..I will be out at polling locations, along with several other of my party members passing out information to voters on exactly how to vote for Kurita and how the Democratic Executive Committee stole an election from the people in our district (just in case they haven’t heard, that should really piss some of us rednecks off). And you want to know the real kicker…..I didn’t even vote for her the first time. I can’t stand to see the political machines disregard for the voters. I hope they have a few years to wish they had handled this differently.

    Not to get all specific with the semantics, but if you’re a Republican and your friends are Republicans, then a Democratic primary was not stolen from you.

    I think, if nothing else, that this whole business underscores why a closed primary system is preferable.

    I’m a yellow dog Democrat and the principle of people voting in an open primary system and then having their votes negated by party rules is the issue now. Just the stupidest PR in the world and no way to attract voters to become members of the party.

    Goldnl - Read the post, I said the Democratic Executive Committee stole the election from THE PEOPLE of our district. I didn’t say it was stolen from myself, or fellow Republicans. While on some level I agree that primaries should be closed, the fact is it wasn’t, and Kurita was the certified winner of the election. By the way, one of Barnes’ complaints was that poll workers told voters they had to vote Repoblican to vote for him. I’m really thinking that if they didn’t know he was a Democrat, then they couldn’t have been too dedicated in their support of him. Regardless, once again, Kurita was not at the polls telling people to do that, so how can that be placed on her shoulders anyway?
