New MTSU Poll: 22% Of Hillary Supporters Will Vote For McCain

Posted on September 29, 2008 at 11:39 am

According to a new poll, in a state which Hillary Clinton won the Democratic primary by a commanding percentage and which includes a large swath of those conservative Appalachian voters, Barack Obama still has trouble in the race against John McCain:

The McCain campaign seems to have had modest success at attracting supporters of former Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, whom 22 percent of Tennesseans say they voted for in the Democratic primary. A quarter of those who voted for the junior senator from New York in Tennessee’s Democratic presidential primary say that they would now vote for McCain and Palin in the general election. However, 56 percent of those who report that they voted for Clinton in the primary say that they would now vote for Obama and Biden. The rest of Clinton’s supporters remain undecided at this point or say they would vote for someone other than McCain or Obama.

In state politics, Republican also enjoy an advantage:

Fully 47 percent of Tennesseans are satisfied with the direction the state is going, but only 34 percent of Democrats are satisfied compared with 59 percent of Republicans and independents.

Lamar Alexander, as expected, polls well in his race versus Bob Tuke:

Republican incumbent Sen. Lamar Alexander outpolls Democratic challenger Bob Tuke 50 percent to 26 percent among likely voters in Tennessee’s race for U.S. Senate, but about a fourth (23 percent) say they aren’t yet sure whom they favor.

A plurality of Tennesseans want more church in their state:

Fully 41 percent of Tennesseans think politicians say too little about religion, while 26 percent say the amount is about right, and 23 percent say there is too much religious talk.

Barack Obama sickens me. I say this as an eighth cousin of this man. He espouses more hatred than I’ve ever seen anyone in this country. If one took a close look at his face versus Senator John (the pain) McCain, you could see the anger and bitterness.
The question is this. WHY? What have the American people done to this man? Certainly, his distant cousins in my family haven’t done anything. We’re also cousins of Hillary Clinton. She showed me something in the final days of the Democratic Campaign.
For the first time, I saw serious authenticity in her. I was very impressed to see her openness and well-thought reactions to the false Obama. People, do NOT be fooled by this IMPUDENT man. Robert Gibbs, his media guy, stated this morning that Obama wanted to pay off countries with beefs with the United States.
I nearly lost it! We’re already bailing out the mess Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac made. Democrats, Dodd and Obama, received more campaign contributions than anyone else and now they’re crying foul at Conservatives. Now, I don’t espouse any one party, but Obama supporters need to know one thing. We Rankins love our country!!
Thomas Turley Rankin, my late grandfather, worked both in the FDR and Truman administrations.I will not let his distant cousin Obama disgrace the memory of those who created A TEMPORARY FIX with the New Deal.
Grandpa co-wrote much of the legislation. I invite anyone to disprove this.

“an eighth cousin of this man”

I bet I’m an eighth cousin too. And John McCain. Hysterical!

I was going to point out that your figuring is wrong ACK. Nearly 50% think there’s enough or want less. That means the majority doesn’t want more. Though, I must confess, 41% cultist freaks me out.

I voted Clinton, but McCain now. I can’t vote for a Democrat that has no morals whatsoever. this obama has so many times showed us his disinterest in faith in God, and the United States and especially the poor and middle class people. He has no feelings for us. I cannnot and will not vote for anyone that doesn’t have faith in our Jesus Christ. I did hear him when he ridiculed the Bible, and that did it for me.His running for president has become more of a game to him, he was as shocked as we were, when he was nominated anyway. He has people following him like a cultish movement. Our people need to remember who has already fought for us, and is willing to do so again.McCain may be old, but he is the wiser and more intelligent, and is for the United States. We do not have to question if McCain is for the United States, we already know he is, and he has fought for our country also. obama doesn’t have any experience whatsoever, he has ran for president longer than he has been a senator. I do believe McCain is more qualified and does have our best interest at heart. the more i see obama the more i detest him. I do wish the Nashville Preachers and all Preachers would listen to where obama ridiculed the Bible, before voting.

Tom Paine is a pain in the keaster. I am forming a new foundation called Histocris and am looking for good policy researchers to assist politicians and others who would like to set policy straight. Yes, we are also doing a section called Polikin. I am an amateur genealogist and have found fun things to mess with in research.
Mr “Paine”, here are some of those who do have a common ancestor with my family. Produce an e-mail address and I’ll send you the file.
George Washington, John Adams, John Tyler, FDR, Truman, the Bushes, Mitt Romney, Bill and Hillary Clinton separately, the false messiah Obama, Dick Durbin, Jim Cooper, Jimmy Carter, ALGORE, Bill Frist,
etc…This is just a fun hobby.

I do, however, invite each of you to learn about the country you live in: the cost of freedom, the cost of sacrifice for others, the cost of blood given in Civil Wars, the cost of family relationships etc…
As a former History teacher, I am fortunate my kin have played a key role in this nation’s past, present, and hopefully, future.
That, however, makes no person better than another.
Each person must learn the true sacrifice and not depend on a feckless government to provide for his or her needs. This country is so great because we can literally be as good as our circumstances allow.
This is the true genius of freedom. With that freedom comes tremendous responsibility. To all of you, PLEASE exercise that right to vote. Do NOT criticize others for their feelings, but if you vote a specific way, be totally aware as to why you’re voting that way. Have concrete thoughts as to why that person is a better fit than another.
Let’s say you want to vote for Barack or Barry Obama. Be aware of his background and associations.
It might concern you, as me, that Obama has literally been running for office since his Senate inaugural.
That’s from friends who live in the Land of Lincoln.
It concerns me that he has associations with a preacher of hate like Jeremiah Wright, who hates his country rather than work to mend the pain others have caused. It concerns me that “change” means over a trillion dollars of new spending and a global poverty tax for something the Americans didn’t even do.
It concerns me that his wants to give amnesty to Illegal Aliens. These people have wantonly broken the law of a free country and are here to take what they can freely.
McCain concerns me for his amnesty ideas. He concerns me because of his age even though I have a parent that age. I am concerned because I see a wanton desire to “get along” with those who want only things for themselves over country and the taxpayers.

Obama is not going to win…. McCain has Hillary supporters and these folks will put him in the White House. Do you people even really know the corruption that took place that got Obama this far? It is out there and now these same Obama supporters are filing false registration forms.

I supported Hillary last January aftaer I hurt my knee at work and was out of work until it healed. I watched the election shows and after about a month of wathcing and seeing biased jouranalist like Chrais Matthews, (Hard Ball), Keith Olbeermann (Countdown to Olberman( both MSNBC and Rachael Maddoaw tqaht Lesbian (Racae To The White House) i got fed up and decided to join Hillary’s camp. I made the phone calls and donaated from my compensation check when I could. I saw how she was treated and it was a Democratic National Disgrace. Howard Dean and Nan Peludio adn other Dem. Party members simply just didn’t want Hilalry and they used the earl y voting in Florida and Michigan against her,Obama didn’t even have his name on the Micdhigan ballot and they gave him delegates and one of Hillary’s delegate just to show their power and clout and rub it in Hillary’s nose. They did not wanat her. I’m voting for John Mccain as of last June and the morea I learned of him ,the morea I like him as a decent true reformer and I was ecstatic at his V.P. choice. I agree with one of Hillary’s Big fund raiser’s Lynn Forester Derothchild for coming out and having guts and putting theaggrevated Campbell Brown (CNN NEWS) in her proper place. I’m a democrat voting for John Mccain and people out there ,you really do need to know Obama’s seedy Chicago associations as we have a rigt to know.Obama is no angel and he is quite elitdist and dclever in gettin the average middleclass vote if you do not learn more about his associations and I’m middlelass and informed about Obama.
