Alma Sanford Renounces Her Party Affliation After Kurita Decision

Posted on September 13, 2008 at 6:24 pm

The woman who had disseminated a spirited defense of Rosalind Kurita and who had encourged Democrats to rally around Kurita has renounced the party she has called home for sixty-nine years.

“On behalf of my daughter, my sister and myself, I am disgusted with this party,” proclaimed long-time party activist Alma Sanford to reporters after a decision by the Democratic Executive Committee to declare Rosalind Kurita’s 19 vote victory ’incurably uncertain.’

Citing actions by Tennessee Democratic Party Chairman Gray Sasser, as well as spokesman Wade Munday, and the general mistreatment of Democratic such as Hillary Clinton and Rosalind Kurita, Sanford said she no longer considers herself a Democrat.

“I will vote for John McCain,” Sanford stated unequivocally.

Sanford was upset not only with the Kurita decision today but with what she claimed was encouragement by Sasser to Hillary Clinton delegates in Denver to break Tennessee law by voting for Barack Obama.

Sanford also expressed dismay directly to spokesman Munday, who listened intently and respectfully to her comments to reporters, that he did not renounce Congressman Steve Cohen in his weekly newsletter for comments he made comparing Hillary Clinton unfavorably with the Glen Close character in Fatal Attraction.

UPDATE: Good riddance to bad rubbish.

I’m not surprised by this. I lost a lot of my respect for Sanford when she fostered a split in the Davidson Co. Democratic Party over some personnel issues. I think she puts personal issues over what’s best for the party and the country. And anyone who thinks Hillary Clinton would approve of voting for John McCain — a man who’s earned a zero percent rating from Planned Parenthood — is clearly out of touch.

In my opinion based only on this piece, that’s as sexist a fit she pitched as I have ever seen in politics.

It’s the Democratic Party, not the Female Party.

Did Kurita put her personal advancement ahead of loyalty to the Democratic Party and what it stands for, using John Wilder as her excuse? In my pure opinion based on news reports, YES INDEED.

    Kurita’s genitalia are not important.

I hope we get new legislation out of this.

Did John Wilder put his personal advancement ahead of loyalty to the Democratic Party when he cut a deal with Republicans to remain speaker after the Democrats ousted him? Democratic Party loyalty is a joke. Democrats will do anything to get ahead.

I serve as the Democratic State Executive Committee member for District 19 and voted to uphold the election results for Sen. Kurita based upon the evidence and arguments that were presented last Saturday. I am a male committee member and Sen. Kurita’s gender had nothing to do with my vote nor the vote of my fellow committee members. The TN Democratic Party conducted a fair hearing that allowed due process for both candidates with Chairman Gray Sasser doing a good job given the circumstances. I resent the allegations and inference of sexism on Ms. Sanford’s part and I assure you that the Democratic Party is unified to Change the direction of this country by electing Obama/Biden to the White House. If you believe that Mccain/Palin will further the fight for gender equality after reviewing Mccain’s record and Palin’s position statements, then you may have succomb to emotional hysteria rather than rational thinking. I was very dissapointed in Alma Sanford with the remarks that she made regarding a party that she worked hard and believed in. I hope she can come to grips and know a vote for McCain is not going to help this country in any positive way. I hope and pray as well that she understand the difference between good for all and a personal agenda.

I believe that there was a lot of pain and frustration in the comment regarding voting for Mr. McCain. No self respecting feminist would vote for his ticket. I am sure Ms. Sanford will not be among those people who have been fooled by Ms. Palin’s “Feminists for Life” membership.

I think the dimmocrats have now shown themselves to be the biggest crooks in politics in history.

They have sunk to lows in this election I never thought I would see in my life.

the dimmis now act as if they want to start a racial/gender type of war.

Bring it on. Last group standing wins.

Until that time, I will fight their racism (and that includes planned parenthood’s agenda of killing all minority babies just as M Sanger wanted) and their rampant extreme idiocy.

and remember dimmocrats - the more extreme your “freedom of speech” (such as attacking a busload of boy scouts at the RNC), the more extreme the disagreement.

Leaving Obamia is like leaving the Mafia!!!
Sanford and Rothschild need a witness protection program.

I’m amazed at how violently Obamians try to eat their young, eat their old, eat anyone who doesn’t adhere strictly to the party regimen.

    Heil Obama !

Why do Dems pretend to have primaries? The “SUPER DELEGATES”, which have nothing to do with being elected to represent anyone, picked Obama and the party board kicked Kurita out. Why bother spending all that time and money? The back room boys pick those who will serve at THEIR bidding and the electorate can go “eat cake”!

Well, well, well if it were JUST Alma Fellow Democrats - but what about Lieberman,Elaine Lafferty, Paul Mitchell, John Paul Dejoria and his wife,, Lynn Forrester de Rothschild, Mark Erwin,John Coale, Brian Golden, and Silverio Salazar? These are ALL movers and shakers of the Democratic Party. (We won’t count Donald Trump, who also jumped over to McCain.) So trash her all you want. Truth is - the ONLY question now is - Who’s Next?
