This Is Who We Are

Posted on September 8, 2008 at 8:28 am

Bill Hobbs asserts that the Republican ticket boasts a woman like America is now rather than like what America may be in the future:

Most Americans went to the University of Idaho or to some other state school, or to some private university or college you may never heard of. Most Americans make less than $100,000 a year, and live in an ordinary house that they struggle to pay the mortgage on.

Michelle Obama may think she and Barack are “who Americans are supposed to be,” but the American reality is that the Palins are much more like who most Americans are. That’s why the McCain-Palin ticket now leads the Obama-Biden ticket nationally according to the reliable polls.

First off, I find it interesting how much Republicans like to compare Sarah Palin to Michelle Obama…its almost as if McCain once again traded up for a hotter, younger wife.

Second, yes, Sarah Palin might be more like the average American…is that really what we want?

Do we want someone who graduated with a BA in how to read a teleprompter; or someone who graduated near the top of his class with a BA in international relations, and then went on to Harvard Law?

Seriously, this is taking the “someone I’d like to have a beer with” test WAY to far. Its one thing to target “soccer moms” and “Nascar dads,” and its another to give someone the keys to country because they fit into that demographic group.

Hobbs is desperate to find a way to make Palin seem more “like” average Americans, since her positions on outlawing all abortion, teaching evolution in the public school classroom, and not believing global warming is man made, are all so far removed from average Americans. Well, all Americans except for one- Palin’s soul mate, W. And we all know how well that has turned out.

Before I clicked the comment link, I said to myself “there is a 100% chance that either GoldnI or Sean Braisted has chimed in”. Heh, anything about Obama or Hobbs baits em everytime.

P.S. I love it when Hobbs uses phrases like “according to the reliable polls”, when he will then denigrate the same polls in two weeks. It’s like all of Hobbs’ logic is derived from a high school rhetoric class….

if the Palins are America, as Hobbsie claims and as I don’t believe for a second, then this country is doomed to destruction, and it will deserve it.

Haha Glen, very funny. As a matter of fact, I didn’t see this until just now. You see, I have to get up early these days for LAW SCHOOL, and my TORTS and CONTRACTS professors don’t allow us to use laptops in class (apparently they’re a distraction…who would’ve guessed it?). So no, I wouldn’t have been able to chime in on this two hours ago.

I do love how conservatives say you should work hard and “pull yourself up by the bootstraps,” but as soon as you do so, you’re an elitist and not in touch with ordinary Americans. Which is it? Should we all strive to better ourselves, or is the very notion that you can improve your standing in life elitist?

Yeah, because skull and bones was a down to earth, everyman’s club.

I don’t know what you are talking about. Lay off the Red Bulls there.

No, just coffee. I don’t drink Red Bull except with vodka.

I do think you know what I’m talking about though. Law school is elitist by Hobbs’ definition. Maybe I should drop out and get knocked up just so I’ll be more “in touch.”
