What Would Dobson Do?

Posted on September 7, 2008 at 9:49 pm

Laurence Vance wonders how Dr. James Dobson would advise a woman asking this question:

“I have been a successful professional woman for the last 15 years. I earn $175,000 annually. Recently, I received an offer from a competitor that would more than double my income, but would also require almost constant travel. I have a four-month-old daughter with Downs Syndrome and a 17-year-old daughter who is four months pregnant. What should I do?”

You’re stuck with your own Down’s Syndrome kid, because we don’t allow infanticide anymore. You had notice of its genetic defects early enough to avail yourself of our enlightened Supreme Court majority’s return to the rule of centuries allowing abortion before “quickening,” but your foolish belief that you have to have every baby you get pregnant with has condemned this one of your offspring to a substandard life for decades and its caretakers (or the taxpayers) to spending their time on and financing same.

You should tell your daughter you will support her decision to abort and pay the medical bills to give her more freedom to have a life uncramped by teenage motherhood. If, due to your brainwashing or her self-serving, ’somehow I’ll get paid for hiring myself as a mother before marriage” decision-making, well, legally you have no responsibility to her after she turns 18, so leave her to the bed she makes for herself and go on with your bad self. Your mind is so together we need it at the very top.
