They Drew First Blood, Not Him

Posted on September 5, 2008 at 2:11 pm

Jon Crisp doesn’t care what it costs. He wants his English First and he wants it now.

Jon Crisp, a developer and former chairman of the Davidson County Republican Party, said he, Crafton and others pushing for the vote are debating whether to wait until the 2010 general election or call for a special election. Crisp said he favors a special election as soon as February, even though it could cost taxpayers $500,000.

“We’ve been nice to the election commission, we tried to give them an out,” Crisp said. “They chose to go the legal route. I’m tired of being nice to people. … It could cost $500,000. But I’m not the one who got us here.”

As I’ve posted on my own blog before, I can guarantee you they will wait for 2010. That is the election that decides who will be the majority when the U.S. Census is taken. And you can bet the Republicans want to make sure they are in charge when redistricting takes place. Like gays-guns-n’-God, immigrant-bashing is a right-wing dog whistle.

You can take it to the bank.

So you’re fundamentally opposed to Nashville using english-only ballots to ensure citizen requirements (being a naturalized citizen myself I can tell you it IS a requirement) and reducing printing costs in all future elections?

How open-minded of you. Watch where you step, if you open your mind too much your brains may fall out.

and reducing printing costs in all future elections

You do know we use electronic voting machines in Davidson County, right?

    Sorry, try again.

Republican… enough said. Conservative in regard to everything except spending tax dollars.

Barrett could avoid spending this extra money by simply following the courts ruling and place it on the ballot and let the people decide once and for all. This goes away if the Nashville community decides against it and Crisp and Crafton will be silenced. However; we all know that it will pass and prove Crisp and Crafton were correct in pushing for English First. The liberals in the election commission and the county government do not want this and are willing to waste money and resources just to deprive Nashvillians there right to vote. Afterall, Metro government has a history of wasting our money in the courthouse.
