Remember, Remember The Eleventh Of September
By Kleinheider Posted on September 5, 2008 at 10:50 amWes Comer doesn’t think Republicans should be chastised for showing the footage from the Trade Center and Pentagon attacks during their Convention:
This isn’t a Republican, Democratic, Libertarian, or Constitution Party issue. It’s not a black thing, a white thing, a man thing, or a woman thing. This is an American thing. We should watch it every year just like we watch the footage of the Pearl Harbor attack. Every American should count on having a lump in their throat each September, and should give pause to remember that we face a very real, no matter how faceless, enemy.
If every time there’s a gray cloud in the sky we’re forced to watch footage of the Katrina disaster, complete with bodies floating in the water, should we be satisfied when we’re told that “out of respect for the dead we’re not going to air the 9/11 footage?”
Remember. Remember. Remember.

“We should watch it every year just like we watch the footage of the Pearl Harbor attack.”
I’ve watched movies of the Pearl Harbor attack but there’s not a whole lot of video available. I guess I just don’t go to the right bars where they show attack videos.
Dear Jim:
Google is your friend:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LJ7TDqHrmo&NR=1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NaaN0wQtbg
http://www.fotosearch.com/TME706/706-38/
I’m not sure what bars have to do with anything, but next time you’re going to make a smarmy comment it might pay to do a simple web search on the subject.
Lookin’ out for you, pal.
Mr. Comer utterly fails to acknowledge the real reason this was offensive and in poor taste. IT WAS SHOWN AT A PARTY POLITICAL CONVENTION! I would call it pornographic, but people in the porn industry at least have the decency to eschew snuff films. If you want to remind yourself of 9/11, fine, but this was a totally inappropriate venue.
How is it not appropriate when you have two parties that have clear distinctions in how to respond to terrorism? How is it not appropriate for the one who says “take the fight to the enemy” to remind people of what it looks like when we don’t?!
Many liberals don’t like seeing the footage, because they want to pretend it never happened. Because if it never happened we wouldn’t be at war, and we wouldn’t have to make tough decisions. We could spend all day talking about hope, and change, and unicorns.
They’re the ones who create the celebrity centered news cycle, and make gossip rags and sites the most popular. They’re the reason that over half of the Forbes 2008 list of the 50 Most Powerful People in the World are in either entertainment or fashion.
If some liberals don’t want to talk about or think about 9/11 that’s their right. But don’t start pointing a finger in my face saying that the GOP has politicized this event for gain – defense is part our platform.
Wes,
Your party has had 7 years to “take the fight to the enemy”. Instead you took it to Iraq, which had nothing to do with 9/11. Bush promised to capture Bin Laden “dead or alive”, but he’s still out there seven years later.
The only reason for the Republicans to show the videos of 9/11 is to distract everyone from the fact that they have utterly failed in the War on Terror.
Dear Goldnl:
How many attacks have we had on American soil since 9/11?
Oh, that’s right. None.
Some failure.
Again–Where’s Bin Laden? Why do the Taliban still control half of Afghanistan?
