Transient Culture

More than one out of ten Americans moved last year, according to the U.S. Census. Most of the 12% who moved did so for a better houses and roughly two thirds stayed in the same county. Blacks made up the most mobile racial group with 17% on the move. The migration from cities to suburbs continued as well, where major cities lost an overall 2 million people and suburbs gained almost as much.

    Of course, those numbers will go way up this year, but foreclosure families aren’t moving on up. They’re moving into Mawmaw’s garage, trying to stay in the same school district or at least the same county if they are still employed.
