The Amateur Democratic Response To The Palin Pick

Posted on August 29, 2008 at 10:29 am

The Cynics sums it up:

Palin comes with all sorts of fun talking-point-ready attributes, including having 5 kids — one who’s headed to Iraq, and one with Down’s Syndrome — as well as a history of loving guns, hating abortions, and “meh”ing the gays. But she’ll look like a dream to on-the-fence voters because the talking heads will never shut up about her being a girl and “fighting GOP corruption” and other s**t up in that state that has as many people as live on my block in NYC. This may be the savviest move McCain could have made to make everyone shut up about Obama’s extraordinary speech last night.

In other words: f**k.

Ummm, what? Palin is a radical right winger and way outside the mainstream, holding opposite views of the vast majority of women in this country. This pick was desperate and a mistake.

She’s not fighting GOP corruption; for God’s sake, she’s under investigation herself!

Doesn’t the VP become President if the President can’t serve? Are you kidding me?

I agree, this was a desperate move, anyone with sense will look at this woman, and know that he picked her simple trying to even the playing field! A desperate mistake by a desperate man. I believe, in the end, it will back fire terribly on him! Also, he talks so much about Obama “not being ready”…then he brings in someone with even less experience! Come on, lets call it what it is!

Do they think we are ALL stupid, that we can’t see she was only chosen for her convenient demographic characteristics? Did you notice how uncomfortable McCain looked during her speech? He was giving her pointers and direction in an obviously patronizing manner. Do you seriously think she will be a part of the “team”? She’s there as eye candy and to steal the women’s vote.

I hope that most women in this country will see through this move. Breaking a glass ceiling only counts if the person who breaks it has the right experience, education and credentials to be a serious contender. Who wants a glass ceiling broken by someone who has little knowledge of the world outside of Alaska and Idaho, and who should be concentrating on her family and the state she purports to govern?

The Lieutenant Gov. of Alaska is also running for national office, so who is going to be in charge of this state over the next few months? Her talk about putting the people’s best interests first should start with her leadership in Alaska — she’s abandoning those voters who elected her so that she could turn Alaska politics around. And she’s doing it for self-serving interests, so I retch when she talks about the common good.

Great choice. You are lefties are done once again. You need new leadership and ideas or you will continue to suffer losses. C’mon Howard Dean.. this aint rocket science.

PS… I really do hope that Obama wins. We need a good liberal to filet in order to take congress back. Plus…. Hillary will be done in 2012 and beyond should he win. Don’t get me wrong… I will not vote for him, but I will not be upset should he win.

If I was in Obama’s and Biden’s position I would be licking my chops over this choice.

Now the experience question for Obama is totally off the table.

McCain is obviously pandering to women voters.

His talk of picking someone with a close working relationship with him was obviously just smoke. I’ll bet he had never met her before she came up as a possible choice.

To me this seems like shooting fish in a barrel for the Obama campaign.

  8. August 29th, 2008 12:59 pm

    Jeff -

The experience issue is hardly off the table. Under a McCain Administration, McCain will be making the decisions. Under an Obama Administration, Obama would be making the decisions.

Obama is STILL inexperienced - McCain’s pick doesn’t make him any more experienced. Palin’s had more experience in an EXECUTIVE position than anyone else on either Party’s ticket.

Excellent choice. The naysayers say McCain picked her because she’s a woman, but I’d suggest the argument could be made that Dems voted for Obama because he’s black.

A Biden-Obama ticket would be much stronger than their current selection.

Whats the difference between Palin and Obama neither of them is out of diapers yet… She was a very good but risky choice for the GOP. I think she will attract a lot of typical non-GOP demographics. Who cares about the presidential race anyways. If you truly want to infulence the direction of this country. manage your congressional representation. They hold the pursestrings, they make laws, they are your closest link to the US Federal Govenment and you have the power to remove your respective respresentative every 24 months if they dont play your ball game. Get inforemd and make a good decision on your congrerssional representation. Scumbag socialist a$$bags like Pelosi are much more dangerous and influentail than any president… Do your job in this democracy, be a good citizen and vote your issues…

First of all, who are all of these vast majorities of women voters. Majority maybe, but certainly not vast. Most vote for Hillary because 1)she is a woman or 2)they want to protect abortion rights. In the long run the Dems are no different in thought process than GOP. They only differ by what motivates. The whole process is sickening. Right now the most appalling thing is that the party that wants to keep “church and state” separate are having interfaith prayer services and gospel choirs at the conventions. Now which side is trying to pull in votes. McCain’s choice of a woman is like the Dems getting religion suddenly. both sides do what they do to gain power.

She’s pretty accomplished and gotta give her that. Biden has had 30 years to improve the US and our foreign policy. Why doesn’t he get more credit/discredit for our Foreign affairs? Bottom line: Our country needs three (3) bona fide political parties. Competition is important. Level the playing field, subsidize a third party for awhile, and make the dems and repubs try harder.

This pick is hilarious and desperate…the necon right-wing chistian taliban are done and don’t even know it. That’s a good indication of their intelligence level. This country is fed up with their ineptitude and the worst president in the last 150 years. Elections in this country come down to Joe Average. He’ll sit on the fence, listen and evaluate, and when he get’s off the fence he decides the election. He KNOWS that whatever Obama brings to the table will be better than what McGoiter…er…I mean McCain, can offer. Eight years ago McCain was the best man for the job and he was crucified by his own party. Today he’s old, out of touch, worn out, and willing to say anything the party tells him to. This will be a landslide win for the dems as the right-wingers realize just what a minority they are.

Mccain and his campaign are like wasps …they will never make an ounce of honey for the the colony - the american people-and we all know that. They have only stings.
On the other hand Obamah, his campaign and the whole democratic party like the real bee hive organizers, producing reall honey so that all the american people will have nectar.

Before the democratic convention Mccain boat was drifting. After the convention it started sinking.
He got so panic grabs on to a non-swimmer, soon they both will need rescue and /or resuscitation.

Obamah is bee and Mccain is wasp.
Said the wasp to the bee “how do you make honey?”
“with pollen from far away.” said the bee. Mcain took off oveernight in his jet to alaska and return with “Palin” He gathered his followers to his hive and got to work.Weeks after weeks , no honey. Months after months no honey.
he got devastated and went back to bee. “I went all the way to alaska for “Palin” and still cant make any honey”he said. “You fool” said the bee, I said “Pollen” and i wont tell you wrher to get it.

I think this was a poor choice for McCain, but perhaps strategic. By getting everyone riled up about her lack of experience, McCain is indirectly shedding light on Obama’s relative lack of experience. I could care less about her daughter’s preganancy, her husband’s DUI 20 years ago, etc. What I do care about is her ultra-conservative ideologies. That is what we, as Americans, should worry about. If you think Bush set the clock back on stem cell research and intellectual governing, think of what Palin would do if she became President!

LET US NOT FORGET… IF McCAIN IS UNABLE, THIS PERSON COULD BE OUR PRESIDENT!! BE AFRAID, BE VERY VERY AFRAID!!!!

    Hey Debbi -

Don’t you forget that if you push the button for Obama and he wins, then Obama would be our President. I’d offer you the same bit of advice - be afraid, be very afraid.

  21. September 4th, 2008 11:41 am

BE AFRAID, VERY AFRAID…. GREAT SLOGAN IF OBAMA GETS ELECTED AS PRESIDENT. OMG, 172 DAYS EXPERIENCE! How impressive is that??
Our country is in a mess right now, but McCain is NOT Bush! He and Palin will get in there and do what is needed to guide America in the right direction. So, all of this silly talk about “more of the same”, forget it! BARAK HUSSAIN OBAMA… the name alone is enough to scare you to death!! I would like to see America get it right this time, our future depends on it! McCain is the man for the job!
