Obama Tonight

Posted on August 28, 2008 at 6:20 pm

An excerpt:

We are the party of Roosevelt. We are the party of Kennedy. So don’t tell me that Democrats won’t defend this country. Don’t tell me that Democrats won’t keep us safe. The Bush-McCain foreign policy has squandered the legacy that generations of Americans — Democrats and Republicans – have built, and we are to restore that legacy.”

“As Commander-in-Chief, I will never hesitate to defend this nation, but I will only send our troops into harm’s way with a clear mission and a sacred commitment to give them the equipment they need in battle and the care and benefits they deserve when they come home.”

“I will end this war in Iraq responsibly, and finish the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan. I will rebuild our military to meet future conflicts. But I will also renew the tough, direct diplomacy that can prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.”

Would people REALLY rather have Mr. 894-Out-Of-899 than Barack Obama?

I mean, those NOT making a seven-figure salary?

He’s got as much in common with FDR and JFK as he does with Peter Pan. Maybe less.

Obama wanted to lose the war. Voted for it. Campaigned for it. Preached it.

    Nope. I don’t want Obama.

    “Mr. 894-Out-Of-899″.

Wow, the “Republican Presidential candidate is an idiot” idea. How original.

“Would people REALLY rather have [McCain] than Barack Obama?”

Since Dukakiss, Gore, Kerry all were much higher in the polls at his point in the election and Obama isn’t.. the answer is that most likely YES.

Obama can write any script he wants at this point. He is great at delivering a speech. His history and fundamental beliefs are more important, and can’t be explained away.

    Is Obama Guilty by Association?

Politics for a voter is about understanding, ideas, and truth. What is a politician’s understanding and bias about the world? What are his ideas? Is he telling the truth about his thoughts and conclusions, or is he merely saying what we want to hear?

It’s sad, but can’t you really just replace all the usage of the words “democrat” and “republican” (as well as the Roosevelt/Kennedy with Lincoln/Reagan) and still make the same hollow promises?

I’ll win the war. Get the troops what they need. Protect America. Be Strong. Beat Al-Qaeda and stop Iran from getting the bomb.

I mean, who ISN’T going to say this in their speech?

It’s not like someone is gonna say the opposite.

Wouldn’t it be refreshing if ALL the candidates told the truth about themselves and honestly spelled out what they would try to accomplish if elected? But then, when was the last time someone was elected to high office for telling the truth?

C’mon. Barry is still mulling over what he should do. He will be mulling it over while the Islamist mullahs are whipping up the mobs to mug us.

The NY Times piece on him today reinforces how he observes. And observes. And observes.

I want a C-i-C who knows what he is doing. What BO described in the speech excerpt above involves action. And it is clear that the action that must be taken sometimes in NOT clear. As a wise friend once said — life usually doesn’t give us a good choice and a bad choice — you usually get two lousy choices.

I want someone who is not immobilized by that.

I’m going to have to take an Advil. Maybe three or four. I have discovered that Obama is a migraine trigger.

How is he going to rebuild our military when he’s said repeatedly he plans to cut funding for just about everything in the military? No more future weapons systems, etc.

I’m a Soldier and although I surely do not speak for the Army as a whole, I’m HORRIFIED at the idea that Obama will have anything to do with the Presidency other than applauding at McCain’s inauguration.

The Messiah only had to go back forty-five years to find a Democrat that would defend the country. He would only have to go back eight to find one that wouldn’t.

Well, yes. I mean, those who understand that academic achievement and political ability are, y’know, two different things, and that leadership isn’t measured by class standing.

All these comments are just proof that Tennessee is a backwoods, white trash redneck state, that is pointing to the rear when the rest of this country is pointing to the front. I am surprised most of these GOP talking point regurgitators could even find the home keys on their computer. ASDF JKL; Folks.

Please spread the word. Too many people are moving here. I’m taking photos of what’s left of the farmland before it’s gone.

The fact that McCain agrees with Bush 90% of the time shows a severe lack of judgment on his behalf.

Agreeing 90% with a failed President.

    Is that not enough, folks?

This part of the speech kinda bothered me-

“You know, John McCain likes to say that he’ll follow bin Laden to the gates of Hell, but he won’t even follow him to the cave where he lives.”

Somehow I doubt a guy who spent years in a Vietcong prison is afraid of some cave in Afghanistan.

I also feel sorry for anyone who believes that Obama will “insure the uninsured with the same level of coverage Congress gives itself”.

He’d have a better chance of giving everyone a Pony.

Sorry, the big “O” isn’t ready for prime time.

Too bad the other option is McCain.

    …..sigh……

“I will end this war in Iraq responsibly, and finish the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan.”

Did MR.Obama propose a timetable for the withdrawal of the US troops from Afghanistan? And if not, why not?

Oh please, how can people have listened to obama tonight, HEARD what he said, watched him over the past 18 months, and not feel this revolution that has started. Americans want to move forward. We are ready. It was an awesome speech tonight! I don’t make more than 5 million…i am middle class. I need healthcare. I want my son to have a bright future. I want someone who is out for my interest not big oil or corporations. I want someone who has NOT voted with Bush 90%. Someone who is going to lead our country with investing in sustainable energy….we can’t afford to NOT change people. WAKE UP!
