Biden Will Smack Obama If He “Gets Out Of Line”

Posted on August 28, 2008 at 11:13 am

Ken Whitehouse reports:

Obviously comfortable with the room and the reception he was getting, Biden began to joke about the age difference between he and the new leader of his party. He said, “Obama was 11 years old when I went to the Senate, so if he gets out of line I’ll smack some sense into him.” But he then added, “OK, I know that just sounded ‘old,’ but there are 44 Senators older than me.”

UPDATE: The Politico may have heard the line differently.

That’s a pretty huge discrepancy! The difference between saying “I’m going to smack X” for bringing up the candidate’s age differences and “I’ll smack some sense into Obama” is huge. I’ll assume you’re all professional reporters with these gadgets known as tape recorders. How about some clarification before this becomes a misreported myth? The InstaPundit has already sent his gazillion visitors over your way, so the ball is rolling…

I wonder what the Secret Service would think if Biden smacks a POTUS Obama.

    Biden will “smack” Obama??

Sounds sort of racist doesn’t it? I mean, here comes whitey to keep the black man in his proper place.

Well he already allowed how Obama was “clean” and “articulate” and “shows a proper respect for white women…”, OK I made the last quote up, but not the first two.

re the two versions, they are not reconcileable. The original version of this post has way too much stuff in it to come out of garbled noise. One or the other is a lie, or they are two different events. The “Ok, that sounded old” part is one of those telling details that seems authentic, to my ear, knowing Biden.

Hey, how about a correction here, since it’s already been shown to be bogus? Nice headline but your credibility is on the line here K.

Perhaps it was a little shot across the bow re ‘The Kiss’.

Ron J., I can’t “correct” because I wasn’t there. Two versions of the quote were reported and I have posted both. Whitehouse has updated his post to reflect the difference but he has not corrected his reporting of the quote he only notes another’s reporting.

Oh, come on. I don’t like either of these guys, and hope they lose by 100 electoral votes in November.

But even if the first quote is the true one…

    It. Was. An. Effing. Joke.

The next vapory poster who wants to inflate this into something serious had better be able to prove they have never ever said to a friend, “Stop ___-ing or I’ll smack you one.” Otherwise, I’m coming over there and smacking them one.
