McCall Expunged DUI File Dirty Trick Claimed By House Political Director
By Kleinheider Posted on August 20, 2008 at 11:15 amFrom the Associated Press:
A Democratic political activist says it was him - and not a state trooper who was suspended this week for unauthorized background checks - who delivered copies of a candidate’s drunken driving records to the Republican leader in the state House.
Keith Talley, political director for the House Democratic Caucus, tells The Associated Press he obtained copies of Republican state House candidate A.J. McCall’s records through a public records search at the Wilson County Courthouse.
Talley says he dropped the copies off on House Minority Leader Jason Mumpower’s desk several weeks ago in a move he describes as standard “political hardball.” He disputes the Bristol Republican’s claim that the records were placed in his locked office at night.
See Clint Brewer’s original reporting on the McCall situation and the allegations by leader Mumpower here.

How can the record be expunged if this guy walked into the Wilson County Courthouse and got it on a standard public records request? That doesn’t sound like expunged to me. McCall is just trying to muddy the waters on his drunk driving.
He should be fired, why would he be at the Capitol and why send it to his wife?
[...] UPDATE II: Democratic political activist tell AP he leaked McCall’s records. Keith Talley, political director for the House Democratic Caucus, claims he obtained copies through a public records search at the Wilson County Courthouse. (Go here.) [...]
What do these allegedly expunged records look like? Email me.
the first comment was not from Mickey White…
Ha ha . . . expunged does not mean what most people think it does. Even if they (usually a clerk) say they have “expunged” a record, there is nothing to force them to manually go and remove paper records from an archive. They arguably should, but there is no guarantee they will, and there is little one can do other than asking that they be expunged again if you discover they haven’t. Having an offense expunged is really mostly relevant to any future legal trouble one may find themselves NOT hiding one’s past misdeeeds from society at large. This is why you will often have a conviction expunged but still have an arrest record. Hell . . . alot of times, these are also documented in local papers.
Regardless, I know of countless examples of expunged records not being expunged so there is nothing that would suggest any deep conspiracy would be required for Wilson County to still have the info on file.
Apologies to Mickey White. I didn’t know there was anothe Mickey.
These are arrest records of a grown man running around driving drunk. What’s the difference between this and Rob Briley? McCall is trying to play the martyr and distract attention from his drunk driving. Who cares who got them? The records were public, but McCall obviously doesn’t want us to know about his drunk driving.
To Paul: Why should Keith Talley be at the Capitol? Maybe because he works for, oh, say, the House Democratic Caucus. Last time I checked, many of their members could be found there from time to time.
And anyway, just because it was expunged doesn’t mean we shouldn’t know about it. Gerald Ford pardoned Nixon, but did we stop talking about Watergate? Did it become OK that Nixon did that stuff? No. And a DUI is a serious problem. Should we trust man who cannot act responsible regarding his own safety and the safety of those with whom he shares the road to act responsibly when considering the welfare of the entire state?
I guess, between McCall and DuBois, the GOP has decided that they are the pro-DUI party.
The Republicans must be running scared if the Dems have hired a talented operative who can find and disseminate the truth. A.J. McCall is unfit.
Next time, they should probably leave a horse’s head in A.J. McCall’s bed. Now that would be newsworthy. The Democrats seem to have stepped it up a notch.
The report now is that McCall was arrested because he tried to force a young woman into a van with him in the middle of the night in a WalMart parking lot. This guy was like 31 or 32 at the time. We’re talking some major league creepiness here.
Now wonder McCall and Mumpower are scared.
Welcome to the 2008 campaign season boys and girls! Theres nothing like political operatives pulling out the proverbial switchblade and drawing blood is there?
