Twenty-Sixth District No Open And Shutt Case
Posted on August 8, 2008 at 11:04 amFrom the Jackson Sun:
The Associated Press and state election officials reported different results late Thursday night, but both showed Gresham leading Shutt with about 4,9000 votes. Her lead was 54 votes according to the state’s totals and 102 in an AP report filed shortly after 10:30 that did not project a winner.
Gresham said her campaign staff had found discrepancies in some of the totals, but declined to say where and how they could affect the race’s final outcome.
Shutt said he likely would not comment on the reported tallies until later today. “We haven’t gotten all the number yet,” he said.
In fact, Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey, Senate Majority Leader Mark Norris and TNGOP Chairman Robin Smith were to travel to the district for a series of press conferences to launch the general-election campaign. Those plans have been scuttled. From TNGOP spokesman Bill Hobbs:
Due to the close vote and possibility of a recount in the Senate District 26 Republican Primary, a planned Republican Party Unity Tour with scheduled stops in Hardin, McNairy and Fayette counties on Friday, August 8, has been postponed while the outcome of the race is determined. Press conferences previously announced for 10 a.m. at the Hardin County Courthouse, 11:30 a.m. at the McNairy County Courthouse, and 1:45 p.m. at the Fayette County Courthouse will not take place.

AC, I guess campaigning with playgirl model Daryl Worley and ex Memphis Tiger/major leaguer Chad Harville nearly paid off for Shutt.
Good luck in November, Delores Gresham. You’re a gutsy person.
