Labor Day Down: Somali Presence At Tyson Leads To Holiday Swap
Posted on August 2, 2008 at 7:31 pmThe blogosphere is one fire with the news out of Shelbyville that Tyson Foods has swamped out Labor Day for a holiday recognizing Eid al-Fitr out of respect for the significant Muslim Somali presence in their workforce. Below are samplings from the chatter.
From an investment standpoint Tyson foods is sucking wind, having posted a 92% drop in profits due to rising feed costs. That would be why Claymore Advisors Llc dropped all of their Tyson stock.

When people qualify to enter the US with refugee status, they actually take out a loan from the government for their plane ticket to get here. They have four months to hang out before they have to start paying it back. As for everything else, they get a little bit of help with a lot of strings attached–within 10 days of being enrolled in the resettlement program, they’re required to meet with a case manager about actively looking for a job unless they’re under 18 and in school full-time. If they have kids at home, they find someone else to watch them. If they can’t speak English, they’re placed in English immersion courses. If they don’t have transportation, they take the bus. If they don’t meet the requirements or haven’t found a job in a couple of weeks, they’re cut off. And if they have found a job at, say, Tyson… they’re still cut off. The goal is self-sufficiency, not dependence.
There are plenty more examples of Somali’s forcing their culture on the rest of us. There’s the Somali Target cashier who refused to touch a package of pork in Mpls. Target of course bowed to political correctness and established a policy allowing a Muslim cashier to call in a replacement. The creeping Dhimmitude in the Twin Cities is well established. With Tyson importing Somali’s to work in their plants in Shelbyville expect the Somali population to expand quickly.
On one hand I’m torn. A private business should be able to give everyone 365 days off a year if they want. On the other hand, replacing Labor Day for a holiday to placate the most violent, intolerant, misogynistic religion on the planet may not be the greatest idea. And while it shows a politically expedient gesture to their employees where the company has financially given up nothing, it may not play as well to their customers.
So they want to exchange one totalitarian based holiday for another. Big [expletive deleted] deal.
This is a frightening example of incrementalism, the process by which groups achieve partial means to an ultimate end. For those who believe that the current fight in the Middle East is religious in nature, this concession by Tyson brings us one step closer to accepting Sharia Law as the law of the land in the U.S.
But what about the non-union employees? They’ve effectively had a federal holiday taken from them at the expense of a religious holiday. Seems that could leave some a little upset, especially those of the non-faith persuasion. Should any decide to see a lawyer or three that could be fun to watch.
Though, if you want funny, just think on the outrage of these fine Conservative Americans pissing and moaning because Tyson won’t be celebrating Labor Day–which was a commie holiday to begin with.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I look at this story and I see the true spirit of Labor Day come to life. The workers preferred to work on Labor Day and instead have a day off a month later. Through their union, they negotiated the change with the company. It may seem like a small change, but one that was extremely important for the workers. Isn’t having a strong enough union to be able to effect such changes what Labor Day is all about? I look at this and think that the founders of Labor Day would be proud.
One of the things I have always treasured about this country is that we are a safe haven, a beacon of hope, to those suffering in poverty and strife in other parts of the world. Not, apparently, in Tennessee.

There should be some standards applied to the quality of people you let into your country? Just the same as you have for entrance into your house. Would you let baby girl butchers and torturers into your house? Voilent killers unable to live with each other because they are savages? Such are the somolians and most african people. They are still in the 8th century because of their mental limitations. If they eventually advance and evolve to a point where they can live with each other in their own country without hating and killing each other, then perhaps careful contact could be tried with them. Minimal contact. Only a country run by fools would purposely bring killers and primitive savages with absolutely nothing to offer, into their country. Somolians, middle easterners, arabs…they hate christians, americans, the english language, freedom for women, pleasure for women. They are all striving for and praying for the end of america and the western way of life.

Female genital mutilation & the women of Somalia

In a village in Banjul, Gambia, there are seven girls lined up side by side, sitting under a shaded tree in the dirt. The youngest of the group, Mary, is a 4-year-old Somalian girl. The other girls range in age from 8 to 11 years old. Mary’s feet are bound with wire, and her face is crusted with dry tears. Mary doesn’t have the strength to cry anymore nor to swat away the flies swarming around her. Mary knows the flies are attracted to the scent of her blood. The fear in Mary’s eyes is pronounced, but her mother can do nothing but look away. Mary’s mother thinks to herself, “I cannot hold her now but when my little Mary is healed I will comfort her. After all, tradition must prevail.”
As with Mary and other girls around the world, the tradition of female genital mutilation continues today. Female genital mutilation - the removal of all or part of the female genitalia - began in Egypt and on the Arabian peninsula. An estimated 135 million females worldwide have undergone genital mutilation, and today, 2 million girls a year are at risk of mutilation in the Middle East and Africa, according to “Female Genital Cutting: An Introduction.”
While female circumcision is practiced in many African societies, the most extreme type, infibulation, is practiced mainly and almost universally in Somalia. Women there continue to accept it as a part of promoting marital purification but due to a lack of education, they are unaware of the procedure’s long-term effects. Infibulation involves mutilating the entire vulva. This most life-threatening type of circumcision involves the removal of the clitoris, the labia minora and the labia majora, and the joining of the scraped sides of the vulva with thorns, catgut or thread.
In her book “Infibulation,” Esther Hicks explains that “a reed, tube or match stick is inserted into the vaginal opening in order that after the wound heals a small hole may remain for the passage of urine and menses. The girl’s legs are strapped together for 40 days to allow the wounds on the two sides to heal together by contact. In some Somali tribes, thorns are used to suture the wounds, and these are held in place by threads wound round their projecting ends.”
Infibulation is practiced on almost all females in all of Somalia and wherever ethnic Somalis live.
Because of widespread poverty and scarce medical facilities, infibulation is frequently done in less than hygienic conditions, Anesthesia is rarely used and the “medical instruments” often consist of razor blades, knives and scissors. The circumciser uses a knife-like instrument, the barga, reserved specifically for the purpose of circumcision. After each operation, she simply wipes the knife on a piece of cloth, sometimes rinsing it in water first before beginning the next operation.
Female virginity is highly valued in Somali society. Although female genital mutilation is a painfully debilitating ritual, infibulation is usually performed prior to puberty and the first menstrual period, to guarantee the virginity and chastity of the women. “In general, the practice emphasizes punishment and control, clearly indicating to the little girl a sense of mystery and importance of sex, and, at the same time, creating a fear of unchaste behavior in her.”
A girl who does not have her clitoris removed is considered a great danger, especially to a man if her clitoris touches his penis.
Many of the men and elders in Somali tribes try to keep women ill-educated about the possible long-term effects of genital mutilation. There is even an ancient belief that if the clitoris is not excised it will grow razor-sharp teeth and engulf and eat up the penis.
By imparting false ideas to the women about the importance of genital mutilation, the tribe is able to carry on the tradition through fear. Women are often afraid of being stoned or called “prostitutes” if they are uncircumcised. .
There are many risks involved when performing the circumcision ritual, many of which can be fatal. At the time mutilation is carried out, pain, shock, hemorrhage and damage to the organs surrounding the clitoris and labia can occur. Women who undergo female genital mutilation can suffer fatal hemorrhaging because in the clitoris there are many blood vessels, such as the dorsal artery, creating the potential for young girls to bleed to death.
And the last straw is that … they just leave a small orifice, through which the menstrual blood can flow. Frequently this orifice cannot let out everything, so a mixture of blood remains inside the vagina. As a consequence, a painful infection develops, which can cause sterility.”
Female genital mutilation may seem like a gruesome experience for any woman, but for the Somali women, the practice is accepted because of tradition and purity, and the women are firmly educated to accept the act. Regardless of the possibility of death or sterility, the women still believe in circumcision. As Hicks explains in “Infibulation,” “It can be concluded that in most Somali tribes, a woman’s very existence is recognized through the act of being infibulated.”

You are right that Somalis (Not spelt as Somolians by the way) have a level of enlightment that you can only hope to achieve. If you did chemistry research in the history of iron, you will have found that 2000 years ago Somalis had invented the first steel production by means of a traditional method. Yes you heard it!!!. While your ancestors were in the caves, killing eachother as tribes in freezing Europe, Somalis had great civilization in Greater Somalia. History will repeat it self but only a matter of time.
Coming back for the FGM, it is a bad practice and what you have cited is only practiced in parts of the most rural areas of the middle east and Africa ( including Somalia of course). Luckily that culture is dying and 80% of Somalis are now against any form of female circumcision. (PLEASE ENLIGHTEN YOUR SELF A BIT MORE).
as far as the workers’ holiday is concerned, it makes perfect sense for the company to allow some of their employees to work another day in exchange for taking another day off to celebrate their religeous holidays. You do not have to be a genius to appreciate that. I hate recists and hypocrites who hide behind freedom of speech or say sharia is being imposed on them when people are just peacefully and considerately practising their beliefs.
On one hand you want those immigrants to work for you and strengthen your economy, as you ex immigrants are so lazy to do any hard job while on the other hand you ruin their countries and make them feel unwelcome into your alien world.

I know that if I went to your country (somolia) you somolians would rape me (hundreds of you probably) for days and days, and then if I wasn’t dead, you would kill me…by cutting my head off while I was still alive and then you would burn my body and hang it from pole.
